  • We plan to expand to newer markets: Radio GupShup

    Launched in 2005, Radio GupShup is the radio arm of Purvy Broadcasts Pvt. Ltd. (PBPL). The Guwahati based private FM radio station is said to have its presence in districts of Kamrup, Darrang, Morigaon, Nalbari, parts of Baksa, Udalguri, Barpeta, Goalpara, and Nagaon districts in Assam as well as Ribboi District of Meghalaya and Samdrup Jongkhar in Bhutan.

     

    While Radio GupShup aims to further consolidate its position in the year 2012, achieving break-even may still be a distant dream. Come FM radio phase III, Radio GupShup hopes to further expand to newer markets. Besides, the FM station which has only recently re-launched its website hopes to reach not only the online community, but also the media agencies. In addition to these developments, Radio GupShup is said to be in a strategic sales alliance with Radio Mirchi which not only helps the Guwahati based private FM station (Radio GupShup) get exclusive business assistance but, also helps the FM station to enhance its sales capabilities (Radio Mirchi has its network across 14 states with 32 stations). Currently, Radio GupShup plays Assamese hits, Hindi and English hit music.

     

    In conversation with MxMIndia, Mr S Wassim Ahmed, Station Head, Radio GupShup spoke about the growth targets of Radio GupShup, break-even targets, the FM phase II plans and much more.

     

    Q: How would you rate the year 2011-12 for Radio GupShup?

    The year 2011 – 12 has been good. Both the programming and sales team have done a decent job and we want to further consolidate our position across markets.

     

    Q: What are your growth targets for 2012?

    As I have already said in 2012 we will look forward in consolidating our market position as a name to reckon with in the FM radio in Assam

     

    Q: What are your break-even plans?

    Break even would not happen within a couple of years as the FM radio business is not an easy money spinning business. As the saying goes … FM radio investor got to be a ‘laamba race ka ghoda’.

     

    Q: What are your phase iii plans?

    As and when Phase III happens, we at Radio GupShup would definitely go in for an expansion.

     

    Q: What about the website? How active are you on your website? Any specific plans for the website i.e. listening online radio etc.

    We have recently re-launched our website. This had been our weak point.

    We would be interested to reach out to the online listenership base, provided we have get link or some knowhow. More over as per my knowledge this concept would take some time to materialize because of I & B Ministry’s clearance has not yet happened.

     

    Q: And what was the thought process behind re-launching the website…?

    To keep in touch with the media planners since we need some kind of connect with the people outside the state vis -a- vis our radio sound, kind of shows we have, music we air etc. The media agencies also get a hang of our station. In nut shell it helps to pitch in for national commercials.

     

    Q: Has there been an increase in the ad rates?

    This ain’t petrol price where the rate can go up. In fact the rates at times go down below the Rs.100/spot mark. So you can imagine how competitive the market is.

     

    Q: What about the advertising categories on Gupshup?

    In my opinion the advertisers/media planners have gradually become more aware about the cost effectiveness of FM radio medium. Since TV and Newspaper advertising rates are humongous, Radio advertising as you might know is a good ‘sasta aur tekao’ medium

     

    Q: Do you have a creative and media agency?

    We do not have a creative agency, we produce our own stationalities.

  • Rise of internet radio: What do traditional FM players think?

    The internet today has become the fastest growing medium in the country, and mobile has more or less become a necessity. So influential is the internet and mobile today that every medium is harping onto the digital bandwagon. The rise of internet and mobile has compelled even FM radio to spread their wings online. Radio Maska which plays 24×7 Hindi music claims to be India’s first Bollywood internet radio station, catering to Indian and NRI listeners.

     

    Besides, Timbre Media, a multi platform and multi genre radio company will soon be launching an internet radio station; VentureNet Partners, a Bengaluru based internet radio company will also launch Radiowalla, a premium model internet audio service that promises a variety of special interest internet radio channels. Realizing the potential of internet, even traditional FM radio stations have extended their reach online. Radio Mirchi for instance launched two internet radio stations- Meethi Mirchi, (plays contemporary melodies) and Purani Jeans (plays Hindi retro). Nearly 3.5 years ago, Radio City launched its music portal, PlanetRadiocity.com and only recently the music portal announced the launch of its new web radio genre, IndiPop Radio.

    Rachna Kanwar – VP and Business Head, Digital Media and New Business, Radio City was of the view that the rise in internet radio stations is a reflection of people’s media consumption and the rising internet penetration in India and around the world. “More and more people are consuming music on the internet and therefore it is but natural that the potential has been tapped by players. While music has always been available illegally, today the whole process is getting legalized. Even music companies are realizing the potential of the digital platform and its demand and looking at the platform differently. This is the future of consumption and serious players realize they cannot ignore the phenomenon.”

    For those complaining about lack of differentiation in FM radio, internet radio may have come as a huge relief as it promises variety in both music and non-music content. However, once FM phase III is rolled out, FM stations hope to witness more innovations along with differentiation in content. So, is there a scope for the two to co-exist or do traditional radio stations need to press the panic button? According to Prashant Panday, CEO Radio Mirchi, “No one needs to be worried about anything if they can adjust to the new realities. If an FM broadcaster prefers to remain only an FM broadcaster, it will be in trouble. But if it can seamlessly migrate to the internet platform, it will be able to maximize the combination of the two formats. So no….there is no need to worry.”

    Rabe T Iyer, Business Head, BIG FM was of the opinion that online radio stations traditional FM stations need not worry about online radio and although there are limitations, online radio is an extension of traditional radio stations.

     

    Internationally, online radio stations augment terrestrial radio listening rather than substitute it. It’s augmented by users logging in from work and homes via the net and accessing their favourite stations. Yes, Online music with its niche music genre will fill the gap which traditional radio is unable to experiment with due to commercial consideration however traditional FM stations will not worry about growth of online radio.”

     

    In an earlier interaction with MxMIndia, M Sebastian, Co- founder and CEO, Timbre Media had said, “There is sufficient space for everyone to co-exist and grow. Rather than worrying, we need to identify areas of partnerships that lead to mutual benefit and faster growth and work towards realizing the full potential of the audio medium.”

     

    The listeners of internet radio stations are said to be those that are dissatisfied with the traditional FM radio stations however the market for internet radio is still small and currently caters to only specific or niche audience. Ashish Pherwani, Associate Director, Advisory Services, Ernst & Young believes that terrestrial FM radio stations will not have to worry about their internet radio counterparts at least for the next five years. He is also of the view that as a business there are many similarities as both internet radio and traditional FM radio stations are in the business of disseminating music.

     

    Speaking about the advantages and disadvantages of the internet radio and traditional radio stations, Mr Pherwani said, “As far as listening to radio is concerned, FM radio stations is absolutely free and this is where traditional radio has an upper hand over the internet radio. The disadvantage however is the fact that FM radio licenses are very expensive as a result many companies undergoing loses.”

     

    Unlike the traditional radio stations which do not charge listeners for listening to radio and is mainly advertising led, the business model of most internet radio stations are either subscription or advertising led or both depending on their radio channels. Like their traditional radio counterparts, internet radio stations too have to pay music royalty costs i.e. a minimum royalty and revenue sharing model. When asked to share his views on internet radio and the benefits it may have on the music companies, Rakesh Nigam, CEO, IPRS (The Indian Performing Right Society Limited) said, “Digital music in India is only picking up, with 3G and 4G services entering the market, internet radio stations will only grow. As a result the sale of music CD’s will only further decline as they will be heard online rather than be purchased. Thus there is potential for internet radio and as a result it will be a win-win situation for all including the music companies.”

     

    Although internet radio has been around for a while, it is still at a nascent stage in India and perhaps for many it is still a new format of radio station hence it needs to first spread awareness about its existence and features. Traditional FM players on the other hand have established themselves in the market and realizing the potential of the internet some of them have already taken their station online. Most of these FM players therefore find no reason to worry about the rising number of internet radio stations. They are of the opinion that differentiation and innovation in FM radio will further increase with phase III rollout and besides it will further increase the reach of traditional FM radio which the internet radio stations may find hard to match, at least initially.

     

  • MY FM launches Mobile App for android phone users

    MY FM launched its mobile application, ‘My Mobile’ for Android phone users, with an aim of further increasing their interaction with the station. The launch of MY FM app comes after the huge success of ‘Radio Dikhta Hai’ campaign wherein listeners could watch their favourite shows on MY FM’s YouTube channel.

     

    The mobile app has unique integrated features designed keeping the brand engagement in mind. Users will be able to set an alarm or a show reminder along with MY FM tones instead of default handset tones with the feature MY Alarm. MY Connect would allow users to go to their city-specific social media platforms – Facebook, YouTube or MY FM website instantly to view, comment or participate in any discussions or contests.

     

    Other interesting features include MY Message where one can send a song request and MY Download where end users can download MY FM tones as their mobile ringtones.

     

    In addition to these exciting features one could also get regular updates such as station promotion, information regarding a show etc. with the Ticker feature. The application is available for free on Android Marketplace as well as on MY FM website.

  • RAMcheck: No change in #1 stations across RAM markets

    TAM Media’s Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) – which covers four key metros, Mumbai,Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru – released its latest radio listenership figures for Wk 8 to Wk11 (Last two weeks of February 2012 and first two weeks of March 2012).

     

    According to the latest RAM data, for listeners of 12 years of age and above, all places of listening, and according to radio channel shares,RadioCity, Radio Mirchi, Fever FM, Big FM, Red FM, Radio One, Oye! FM were some of the top FM stations in the big four metros.

     

    WhileRadioCityretained its leadership position in Mumbai and Bengaluru, Fever FM and Radio Mirchi also continued to remain the leading FM stations inDelhiand Kolkata respectively.

     

    Mumbai:

    RadioCitycontinues to be the most popular FM station in Mumbai, as the FM station has maintained its leadership position in the city. Ranked second is Radio Mirchi followed by AIR FM2 Gold, Fever FM and Big FM which are ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively. These top five FM stations and Red FM, ranked sixth have secured their listenership share in double digits. The other FM stations in the city include Oye! FM, Radio One, AIR FM1 Rainbow, Vividh Bharati and Akashavani Mumbai.

     

     

    Delhi:

    According to the Wk8 to Wk 11 RAM data, Fever FM has once again retained its leadership position inDelhiwith a listenership share of 18.6 per cent followed by AIR FM2 Gold which garnered a share of 18.5 per cent. Although Fever FM is the number one FM station ofDelhi, the government owned AIR FM2 Gold is a close second. What remains to be seen is whether Fever FM is able to widen the gap between the number one and number two FM station? Or will AIR FM2 Gold claim the leadership title?  Once the undisputed leader ofDelhi, Radio Mirchi is now ranked three with a share of 15.2 per cent followed byRadioCityand Red FM with a share of 12.3 per cent respectively. The top five FM stations have received their station share in double digits. The other cluster of FM stations inDelhiincludes Oye! FM, Radio One, AIR FM1 Rainbow, Hit FM, Vividh Bharati and Akashvani Mumbai.

     

     

    Bengaluru:

    RadioCitymaintained its leadership position in Bengaluru with a share of 26 per cent, its nearest rival Radio Mirchi, on the other hand, received a share of 21.7 per cent. Ranked three is Big FM with a share of 17.6 per cent followed by Red FM which received a share of 12.8 per cent. While the top four FM radio stations in Bengaluru received a double digit share, AIR FM1 Rainbow which is ranked five received a share of 6.1 per cent. The other clusters of FM station in the city are Fever FM, Radio One, Radio Indigo, Gyan Vani, Akashavani and Vividh Bharati.

     

     

    Kolkata:

    The top five FM stations of Kolkata continue to remain the same. Radio Mirchi is unanimously the most popular FM station in Kolkata with a whopping 22.9 per cent of the station share. Its nearest rival is Big FM which received a share of 16.8 per cent followed by Friends FM and Aamar FM which are ranked four and five respectively. Kolkata is the only RAM market which perhaps has not seen a change in the top four rankings in a long time. While Fever FM and Red FM are ranked five and six respectively, other clusters of FM station in Kolkata are Oye! FM, Radio One, Power FM, AIR FM1 Rainbow, AIR FM2 Gold, Vividh Bharati and Akashavani Kolkata.

     

  • Jury meets to select winners of the 9th Mirchi KAAN Awards

    The ninth edition of the Mirchi Kaan Awards had an unprecedented response when the Ad gurus met to select the best radio ads of 2011. There were a record 300 entries, a 50 per cent jump over last year. The number of participating agencies doubled to 33 agencies. And the number of entries for the Best Use of Radio as a Medium saw a tripling of entries to a record 31. Entries were spread across 15 categories, ranging from food to cosmetics.

     

    The winners will be felicitated at a gala event hosted by Cyrus Broacha on April 17 at Comedy Store, Phoenix Mills. The Mirchi KAAN Awards was introduced in 2004 to celebrate creativity in the challenging and evolving field of radio advertising. Over the years it has recognised and honoured ground-breaking and original radio campaigns.

     

    Speaking about the ninth Mirchi KAAN Awards, GG Jayanta, National Marketing Head, Radio Mirchi, said: “Every year the stakes get higher. In our 9th edition, the entries and the number of participating agencies have doubled. This is a testament to the prestige that winning a KAAN award gives. I thank the jury for having taken the time out of their busy schedule and selecting the winning entries.”

     

    The eminent jury included stalwarts like Pratap Suthan, Priti Nair, Amit Akali, Malvika Mehra, Manohar Nayak, Josy Paul, Rekha Nigam, Deepa Krishnan, Ramanuj Shastry, Tista Sen, Sonal Dabral and Ravi Deshpande.

     

    Sharing his thoughts about the quality of entries received this year, Josy Paul, Chairman and National Creative Director- BBDO India, said:  “Radio is a very personal and one to one medium. Hence good execution is of utmost importance. There has been resurgence in lot of fresh ideas this year which has lead to more freshness in programming.”

     

    Sonal Dabral, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, DDB Mudra Group, said: “I am on the Mirchi KAAN Jury for the very first time this year and I am quite excited to be a part of this process. Radio as a medium has a lot of potential. Unlike earlier, a lot of brands have now started including and demanding for Radio advertisements to be included in the overall marketing campaign.”

     

    Ravi Deshpande, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, Contract Advertising, said: “Advertising is always evolving, and especially radio advertising has seen tremendous amount of growth. Interesting trends of conversations are always happening and it’s nice to see them getting adapted to the medium of radio”.

     

    Ramanuj Shastry, Chief Creative Officer, Saatchi & Saatchi, said: “It’s fun to be a part of the Mirchi KAAN Awards. New writers are coming in, innovative projects are being showcased. As a jury member it is a pleasant experience to watch this fantastic trend”.

The workshop will help the listeners to learn the nuances of radio advertising and improve the quality”.

     

    This year the theme of the Mirchi KAAN Awards’ ‘Listen, Learn, Shine’ focuses solely on the quality of work in the developing industry of radio advertising. Celebrated and renowned ad guru, Tony Hertz, will conduct a seminar on the art and craft of radio advertising for the aspirants from various ad agencies on April 17 as a build up to the Awards night.   • Radio One is a station with a difference: Anil Machado

    Beginning March 28, Radio One Kolkata made a transition from a station that played a mix of Hindi and Bengali songs to a full-fledged Hindi retro station. The Kolkata station is now a 100 per cent Hindi retro station, playing the biggest hits from the sixties through the nineties. By going completely retro, the FM station aims to create some differentiation in the Kolkata market which has nearly nine FM stations. The decision to go retro was taken after extensive research was conducted, which found that no FM station in Kolkata dwelled into the retro music space and that there is huge potential for a 100 per cent retro music station in the market. In conversation with MxMIndia’s Robin Thomas, Mr Anil Machado, National Programming Head, Radio One shared his view on the reasons for going retro in Kolkata, how the station is different in other markets and the response received. Radio One, a joint venture between Next Mediaworks Ltd and BBC Worldwide is operational in seven metros – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Ahmedabad.

     

    Please throw some light on the decision to go retro in Kolkata?

    Radio One is a differentiated station in every market we are currently present in and there is no market better than Kolkata to go 100 per cent retro.  The biggest retro singers are from this market… Kolkata is a market that swears on retro music, that’s grown up to retro music. Our motive is being different in every market and we noticed huge space in retro music that no one was catering to and if they did, then they were catering in time slots. We did our research and found that people of Kolkata are crazy over retro music and that the market is huge. In fact, no other player has dwelled into this space and hence we took the step and went 100 per cent retro in Kolkata.

     

    What genre of retro music will the Kolkata station play?

    We would be playing the biggest hits from 60s and 70s all the way through the 90s. You can listen to over forty years of the best music ever churned out in the country. The best of retro music will be played on Radio One Kolkata station. Tune in any part of the day and you will listen to songs you have grown up listening to, and therefore you will end up enjoying the station.

     

    And before going retro, Radio One Kolkata played….?

    Before going retro we were playing mainly a mix of Hindi and Bengali wherein Bengali music occupied nearly 25 per cent of the music mix.

     

    You have tried to create a differentiated station across markets…?

    We have differentiated content in all our markets. In Mumbai andDelhi, we are the only radio station playing international music. In Kolkata we are a 100 per cent Hindi retro station. In Chennai we are the only 100 per cent request station. In Pune we are a hardcore Bollywood music station whereas others play a mix of Hindi and Marathi. InBangaloretoo we are truly a Bollywood music station whereas others play Kannada music and in Ahmedabad we stand to a maximum music, maximum choice wherein we air only two shows and the rest is back to back music. The others in Ahmedabad market, on the other hand, air approximate six to seven shows whereas we air only two shows.

     

    What’s the kind of response the Kolkata station is generating, particularly from the advertisers?

    The response, from both listeners and advertisers, has been overwhelming. Advertisers mainly look at audience profiling and the differentiating factors of the station, and Radio One provides that differentiating factor and the audience profile. Kolkata has nine radio stations and advertisers realize that Radio One is the only FM station that plays 100 per cent retro music, our TG continues to remain the same i.e. 30 years plus listeners. What we have noticed in the Kolkata market is that they breed music from the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties, and the people of Kolkata know their music, the singers and lyricist and so on.

     

    Radio One Kolkata went retro towards the last week of March, 2012, yet you didn’t make much noise about it…?

    We went retro from the March 28, 2012. I believe that the moment your product is differentiated, it works on the principle of network marketing but, if you are similar to other stations in the same market that is when you would invest heavily in marketing. Therefore, the moment you are a differentiated product, you would automatically stand out from the herd.

    92.7 BIG FM, India’s No. 1 FM radio network and the Radio Broadcaster of the Year award at Golden Mikes, is bringing back the memories of RD Burman through its late night show Yaadon Mein Pancham hosted by RJ Rajkumari. The show is an ode to Pancham Da, bringing to life the experiences of the people who worked closely with the legend. The show will air Monday to Friday from 9:00pm to 12am.

     

    The show will see biggies from the industry such as Pyarelalji, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet, Sudesh Bhosale, Kersi Lord and many more who will share interesting experiences and never heard before revelations about Pancham Da.

  • Govt policies anti-small radio stations: Goyal

    Tarun Goyal is the Founder, Director of Radio Chaska, a radio station which was founded in 2006 by the Goyal family. In conversation with MxMIndia’s Robin Thomas, Mr Goyal speaks about the challenges facing the station in achieving break even, the issues that need to be resolved before the phase III rollout, on their plans to revamp their official website and whether the radio industry has been hit by slowdown?

     

    Founded in 2006, when you look back, how would you say the journey has been for Radio Chaska?

    The journey since 2006 has been a different one. We started a radio station in Gwalior, thinking that FM radio will catch the fancies of the people, and it did. Over the years there has also been a shift in the advertiser perspective about the medium. However it is the support from the government that we are lacking today, they are spending very less on radio. On a positive note, despite odd challenges, radio has managed to grow tremendously over the last many years, and has also contributed to the development of the city as well.

     

    What is the Gwalior market like for radio?

    Well, it certainly is very different from the metros. People invGwaliorvhave an altogether different taste for radio itself.  The advertising category on radio is mostly retail. We mainly play music all the time – mostly latest Hindi or Bollywood hits.

     

    Apart from advertising, what are the other sources of revenue generation for Radio Chaska?

    We do generate some revenues from activations, a good pie of our revenues also come from Radio Mirchi (ENIL), with whom we are instant partners for sales and then we rely on our local revenues. Although activations help increase our revenues, the profits generated are low, mainly because of the high costs in activation. Thereby, we primarily have to concentrate more on advertisements because that’s where a good portion of our revenues comes from. Nonetheless, more number of activation definitely helps us increase our brand value in the city, which in turn, helps us get more local advertisers.

     

    So, has the strategic sales alliance model worked? How does it benefit both Radio Chaska and Radio Mirchi?

    Since we are a single station owner in Gwalior, this partnership has been a strategic move for both Radio Chaska and Radio Mirchi. Since Radio Mirchi is present across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh except inGwaliorand Radio Chaska is present in Gwalior, therefore Radio Mirchi (ENIL), in strategic sales alliance with Radio Chaska, has created a space for itself in Gwalior as well. It is quite hard to sell a single station and keep track of various campaigns coming from different parts of the country. This strategic alliance with ENIL gives Radio Chaska an edge in reaching out to other parts of the country and the state. Thus we have had an extremely good partnership with ENIL ever since the inception of Radio Chaska.

     

    What are your break-even plans? When do you see Radio Chaska achieve break-even?

    I don’t know when we would be achieving break-even as the costs are escalating and hence we are unable to increase the revenues as anticipated. Unless we have some good policies from the government, small stations will never achieve break-even. Government policies, I believe have gone against the small radio broadcasters and, besides, there are other small issues which if resolved would help small stations achieve break-even.

     

    Music royalty is one of the issues that are yet to be resolved. The escalating fuel cost is another worry because it is adversely affecting the industry. A company’s five to seven per cent cost is always burnt in fuel because the government is unable to provide electricity. These may be small issues but nevertheless they are vital in helping the business sustain in the market.

     

    The MIB (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) has already given its nod to news on private radio stations, multiple licenses are allowed, FDI limit has been marginally increased. How does Radio Chaska view these developments? Will these benefit smaller stations?

    We welcome this move, but issues like music royalty need to be sorted out first and only then I believe FM radio stations can probably flourish in the long run. Right now challenges for smaller stations, in particular, are many and only time will tell how FM phase III will benefit the industry. Nonetheless we welcome the policy and we too would try and be part of the phase III policy.

     

    So, will you approach phase III more cautiously? Will you expand to other markets? What are your phase III plans?

    We are eyeing for expansion in parts of Madhya Pradesh as well as in other markets, but yes, our approach will be a little cautious. We will not hype up the prices and bid unnecessarily. If we find the scenario viable only then we will bid, otherwise we will stay away.

     

    How significant a role does the website play for a radio station? Do you plan to add new features or redesign your website someday?

    Yes, we will be upgrading our website very soon, probably in next two months. Official websites have also become a medium for radio stations to interact with their listeners. Our RJs regularly interact with listeners on social networking sites and today official websites have also become an integral part of a radio station.

     

    It is said that the radio industry being hit by the economic slowdown. Do you agree?

    Yes, I do agree that the radio industry too has been hit by the economic slowdown. The telecom industry, for instance, was one of the highest spenders on radio and in the last three or four months we have not received any business from the telecom sector. So, yes there is a slowdown and radio has been affected by it, but nevertheless radio is surviving the slowdown.

     

  • RAMcheck: Besides Mumbai, no change in #1s

    TAM Media’s Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) – which covers four key metros, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru – released its latest radio listenership figures for wk 13 to wk 16, 2012 (Last week of March to first three weeks of April, 2012). According to the latest RAM data, for listeners of 12 years of age and above, all places of listening, and according to radio channel shares, RadioCity, Radio Mirchi, Fever FM, Big FM, Red FM, Radio One, Oye! FM continue to be the top FM stations in the big four metros.

     

    Mumbai:

     

    Radio Mirchi emerges as the number one FM station in Mumbai with a market share of 15.3 per cent, followed closely byRadioCityat 15.2 per cent. The two FM stations are closely competing for the top spot, but what remains to be seen is which of these two FM stations retains the top spot. AIR FM2 Gold, Fever FM and Big FM make the top five FM stations in Mumbai. The other FM stations in the Mumbai market include Red FM, Radio One, Oye! FM, AIR FM1 Rainbow, Vividh Bharati and Akashavani.

     

    Delhi:

     

    Fever FM continues to be the most popular FM station in Delhi with a market share of 18.4 per cent, its nearest rival is the AIR FM2 Gold which is comfortably placed at number two with 18.1 per cent market share. Ranked three is Radio Mirchi followed by RadioCity which is ranked four and Red FM as ranked five in theDelhimarket. The rest of the FM stations in Delhi include Big FM, Radio One, Oye! FM, Hit FM, AIR FM1 Rainbow, Akashavani and Vividh Bharati.

     

    Bengaluru:

     

    RadioCity continues to maintain its leadership position in the city. RadioCity, Radio Mirchi and Big FM are the top three most popular FM stations in Bengaluru. RadioCity received a market share of 25.7 per cent whereas Radio Mirchi and Big FM received a market share of 22 per cent and 18.5 per cent respectively. Ranked four is Red FM with 12 per cent and the fifth most popular FM station is AIR FM1 Rainbow with 5.7 per cent. The other FM stations in Bengaluru include AIR FM1 Vividh Bharati, Radio One, Fever FM, Radio Indigo, Akashavani and Gyan Vani.

     

    Kolkata:

     

    Radio Mirchi is the clear winner in Kolkata with a market share of 22.8 per cent. The top three FM stations in Kolkata haven’t changed as Radio Mirchi continues to be the number one FM station of the city followed by Big FM with a share of 16.9 per cent and at the number three FM station of Kolkata, Friends FM received a share of 14.9 per cent of the share. Ranked four and five are Aamar FM and Fever FM with a share of 10.9 per cent and 8.9 per cent respectively. The other FM stations in the city are Red FM, Radio One, Oye! FM, Power FM, AIR FM1 Rainbow, AIR FM2 Gold, Vividh Bharati and Akashavani.
