  • Day1@Goafest 2024: Sanjiv Mehta, Harit Nagpal, Sukhvinder set the stage afire

    Goafest 2024, the annual industry festival organised by The Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) and The Advertising Club (TAC), kicked off with a performance by Bollywood playback singer Sukhwinder Singh. This was followed with members of the organising committee lighting the ceremonial lamp. Prasanth Kumar, President of AAAI and CEO of South Asia at GroupM, then addressed the attendees, marking the festival’s 17th edition. This year’s event also celebrated the third year of collaboration between The Abby Awards and One Show. Under the theme ‘The Age of Adaptability,’ delegates were welcomed to Goafest 2024 with a champagne launch, setting a celebratory and spirited tone for the proceedings. This is Goafest, and even if it’s being held in Mumbai, tea, coffee, soft drinks and beer were available through the day. No questions and monies asked.

     

    In the first session titled Adapt To Thrive Not Just Survive, Harit Nagpal, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Play, stressed on the criticality of adaptability as a means to thrive. Delivering the keynote, Nagpal underlined the inevitability of disruption in our lives and the importance of resilience in the face of it. “Disruption can be caused by anything or anyone, but it becomes our responsibility to survive and thrive,” he said. After Nagpal, a keynote titled, Navigating The Age Of Adaptability: Leading with Vision, Flexibility, and Purpose, was delivered by  Sanjiv Mehta, former CEO of Hindustan Unilever and Executive Chairman of L Catterton India. “Learning happens when you have the humility to say, ‘I don’t know?’” – by admitting so, organisations and corporations open themselves to new knowledge and understanding, fostering a growth mindset that enables them to learn and develop from others’ expertise and experiences, not just myopically thinking of profit generation ,” he said.

     

    Later there was a session titled From Setbacks to Comebacks: The Power of Persistence presented by acclaimed writer and film director, Tahira Kashyap captivated the audience with her inspiring journey, moderated by Atika Farooqui, Celebrity Host & Actor. Kashyap shared personal anecdotes and professional experiences, illustrating how resilience and determination have been instrumental in her success. “Women go through multiple hardware upgrades; every day is so different for women, every hour is so different than the previous one,” she mentions, also candidly referring to the books she has written on womanhood and motherhood.”

     

    And then there was a session titled Lessons of Adaptability: Embracing Failure to Touch Success, featuring Indian actress Medha Shankr and actor Vikrant Massey, moderated by the multifaceted Actor, Producer & Entrepreneur, Neha Dhupia. Medha and Vikrant, the cast of the acclaimed film 12th Fail, illuminated the audience with their insights on embracing failure as a stepping stone towards triumph.

  • Ad Club renews pact with MICA for online course

    The Advertising Club has announced a partnership with marketing and communication management institute, MICA – The School of Ideas, for an online programme on Performance Marketing. Kickstarting in January 2024, the collaborative initiative is aimed towards empowering individuals with industry-relevant skills and knowledge through a specially curated leadership and management development module on Performance Marketing. The programme is designed to help experienced professionals as well as freshers develop contemporary need of the hour capabilities that employers are seeking in order to maintain their competitive advantage.

     

    Speaking on the partnership with MICA, Rana Barua, President, The Advertising Club said: “The landscape of the MarTech industry is constantly evolving. With this programme, we aim to provide a platform for freshers and experienced professionals, and empower them to upskill their knowledge, thereby becoming industry ready. We believe this collaboration will foster learning, transform careers, inspire creativity, and ultimately elevate standards within our industry.”

  • Emvie Awards lined up for tomorrow (Mar 10)

    The Advertising Club is getting set for the 2022  edition of the Emvies with over 1469 entries received, which is the highest ever in the history of the event. The Emvies are scheduled to be held in Mumbai on March 10.

     

    Said Partha Sinha, President Times of India group and President of The Advertising Club: “I have always called Emvie ‘the Oscar of media award’ and over the years it has been doing justice to that reputation. The quality of work, the presentations, and the energy around the whole event are improving every year.   • Ogilvy is Effie Agency of the Year

    There was an unusually cool breeze at the lawns of Taj Landsend hotel in suburban Mumbai, the venue of choice for the Effie Awards each year. Conducted by The Advertising Club the Effie Awards are key for networked agencies as the performance in India adds up to the global performance, and when it comes to critical pitches, it’s Effectiveness (hence Effie) as against Creativity (the Creative Abby) that matters most.

    So in the 2022 edition, it was favourites Ogilvy that took away the top honour of the Agency of the Year. Mondelez India was Client of the Year, while coveted Grand EFFIE was won by Leo Burnett India for Whisper India’s campaign ‘Whisper: Changing the education system to keep girls in school.’

    Surpassing all its previous editions, Effie 2022 received 986 entries, the highest ever in 22 years, and saw participation from 53 agencies.

     

    Speaking at the awards night, Partha Sinha, President, The Advertising Club, said: “It is extremely heartening to witness Effie become the most coveted trophy within the marketing and advertising fraternity. Like every year, this year too, Effe has witnessed significant patronage from industry veterans and category leaders. I’d like to congratulate all the winners for crafting impactful campaigns that are now sheer examples of innovation and effectiveness.”

     

    Elaborating on the awards, Mitrajit Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Effie India, said: “It gives me great joy to host the Effie Awards once again as a physical event, celebrating the best work of the year with the people who create them. A big thank you to 493 judges who judged a record-breaking 986 entries over three rounds of online judging. I also thank each participating agency and client for their support.     Adding on the enhancements in the award process this year, Pradeep Dwivedi, Co-Chairperson, Effie India, added, “We have built a sustainable trajectory as a leading Effie organising body, having successfully implemented the new Acclaim Platform for the jury process this year, in tandem with our worldwide peers and Effie Global team. The adoption and change management of the same by our industry members has been truly amazing!”

  • Ad Club’s holds third edition of D:Code

    Leaders from different digital domains spanning publishers, marketers, new age digital companies, and creative and media agencies gathered on 26th August at The Advertising Club’s third edition of D-Code: The Annual Digital Review 2022 in Mumbai.

     

     

    Amit Wadhwa, CEO, Dentsu Creative kicked off as the first speaker showcasing two case studies – The Protest March and Back Up Ukraine and prodded the audience to remember that we are still about people.

     

     

    Michel de Rijk, CEO – APAC, S4 Capital presented the Tata Tea example done for Independence Day and emphasised how the integration of data, and content with technology enables agencies to create high-quality content overnight in just their own studio Shireesh Joshi, Chief Business Officer, ONDC articulated the vision and implications of the ONDC initiative for sellers, buyers, and every component and process along the e-commerce chain Shedding light on the power of targeting and geolocation insights in campaigns, Gulshan Verma, CEO, Jio Ads enlightened the audience on the scale and solutions offered by JioAds P G Aditiya, Founder of Talented took the audience through the 55 steps that were involved in creating the Cannes 2022 Grand Prix winner, The Unfiltered History Tour, and emphasized the benefits of a long client-agency relationship in creating path-breaking campaigns Following this was Sidharth Shakdher, Executive VP and CMO, Disney+ Hotstar, who shared his thoughts on reversing the narrative of digital driving people apart by building a better consumer experience.

     

     

    Mansha Tandon, Head, Consumer Marketing, YouTube India spoke about shaping creativity with culture and trends in the digital space.

     

     

    Speaking next was Rizwan Bachav, Luxury & Lifestyle Influencer who walked the audience through his journey, learnings, and challenges in becoming an influencer.

     

     

    Sharing thoughts on how creativity can build brands, Rathi Gangappa, CEO, Starcom emphasized the need of being human in the age of digital transformation.

     

     

    Concluding the review, Avinash Pant, Marketing Director, Meta spoke about the evolution of social connections and the exponentially growing metaverse space empowering meaningful experiences.

     

     

    Addressing the evolving digital ecosystem at the third edition of D:Code, Partha Sinha – President of The Advertising Club, said, “Digital marketing has gone on to become a gamechanging phenomenon and the Advertising Club’s D:CODE is a testimony to our persistent efforts to create awareness and enhance the learning curve of the fraternity with insights and takeaways from the industry’s best digital minds. As we move forward in this ever-evolving and competitive digital era, D-CODE will continue to become a significant platform with case studies that give profound experiences, transforming the way brand custodians especially approach their digital.”

     

    Earlier, Sinha paid tribute to the late journalist Anant Rangaswami and called the attendees to maintain a minute’s silence.

     

  • Goafest 2022 ends with some partying, a new Creative Agency winner & some stars in the house

    Saturday, May 7 saw curtains drawn on the 15th edition of Goafest. The three-day fest saw several marketing and glamour stars, master classes and parties and of course awards on each of the evening. Around 1500 delegates are reported to have been in attendance.

     

    Day 3 began with Mithali Raj – Indian women’s cricket captain in conversation with Sharlene Lobo, Anchor, Mirror Now.  This was followed by a digital conclave an introductory address by Gowthaman ‘Gman’ Ragothaman, CEO, Aqilliz & Co-Founder, Web3 Marketing Association. And then there was Sandeep Bhushan, Director and Head of India GMS for Meta.

     

    Later, there was a fireside chat on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion with Rathi Gangappa, CEO, Starcom India, Dheeraj Sinha, CEO & Chief Strategy Officer, South Asia, Leo Burnett, Rohit Ohri, Chairman & CEO FCB Ulka and Suhela Khan, Country Program Manager, We Empower Asia, UN Women on the panel. Post the lunch break, actor and comedian, Aiyyo Shraddha regaled the house with her stand-up act.

     

    Later then was a session on influencers with Ranveer Allahbadia, Niharika NM, Raj Shamani, and Madan Gowri moderated by Viraj Sheth, Co-Founder & CEO of Monk Entertainment.

     

    There was also Rujuta Diwekar, Nutrition Expert and Author in conversation with Anupriya Acharya, CEO-Publicis Groupe, South Asia.

     

    The highlight A&M session of the day was by Kash Sree – Executive Creative Director / Writer who was later engaged in a Q&A by Rana Barua.

     

    The last session for the day had actor Madhuri Dixit in conversation with actor Tisca Chopra.

     

    The mastercasses through the day were conducted by Keigan Pinto, Chief Creative Officer, FCB Ulka, Amaresh Godbole, CEO, Digital Technology Business, Publicis Groupe India, Ram Cobain Creative Shop, Meta, Prakash Jha, Indian film Producer, Actor, Director, and Screenwriter in conversation with Mayank Shekhar, journalist and film critic. The last of the masterclasses on YouTube Shorts by Google.

     

    At the Creative Abby, a total of 32 Video Craft ABBYs, 2 Radio Craft ABBYs, 29 Branded Content ABBYs, 13 Brand Activation & Promotion ABBYs, 4 Diversity ABBYs, 17 OOH ABBYs including 1 Grand Prix, 19 Still Print and Still Craft ABBYs, 4 Still Digital ABBYs, 20 Audio Visual TV/Cinema ABBYs, 41 Audio Visual Digital ABBYs, 1 Young ABBY, 2 Red ABBYs, 11 Integrated ABBYs and 3 Green awards ABBYs were handed out to deserving winners.

  • It’s Goafest time again…

    Goafest 2022 started on high energy. Singer Sukhbir electrified the auditiorium to kick off the 15th edition which happened after a two-year Covid pandemic-led hiatus. The festival started with the lighting of the lamp and the unveiling of AAAI’s new logo. The underlying theme being of celebrating The SuperPower Within.

     

    AAAI’s new logo has been created created by Tempest Advertising’s art director, Lohidasu. The agency’s design was chosen amidst 200 entries. The logo effectively brought the past, the present and the future of both AAAI and advertising in unison. The official unveiling of the redesigned logo at the Goafest, was done by Rohit Ohri, Chairman and CEO of FCB Ulka and film star, Yami Gautam.

     

    Further, the Industry Conclave presented by ABP Group marked the beginning of the festival with the first session of the day, witnessing actress Yami Gautam in a one-on-one conversation with Rana Barua, Chairman, Abby Awards Governing Council 2022 and Vice President of The Ad This was followed by a keynote by Vineeta Singh, Co-founder and CEO, SUGAR Cosmetics & Shark, Shark Tank India, who highlighted the importance of building a brand with quality products and content before focusing on advertising. She also emphasized the power of empowering a team, which mirrors the ethos of Sugar, passionately stating, “Empower them and let them go rule the world!”

     

    The next session saw Ankush Sachdeva, Co-Founder & CEO, Sharechat & Moj, in conversation with Vikram Sakhuja, Group CEO Madison Media & OOH at Madison World.  Following this was a session in partnership with the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), where Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary (CA), Ministry of Consumer Affairs & Food Distribution spoke with Piyush Pandey, Chairman of Global Creative Ogilvy Worldwide & Executive Chairman, Ogilvy India discussing the importance of consumer protection and its responsibility that we have as professionals. The session was moderated by Subhash Kamath, Chairman, ASCI & CEO, BBH, India. Singh ended the session on an impotant note: “If we don’t look after the interest of the consumer, who will?”

     

    After that Kiran Bedi, Former Lt Governor Puducherry and one of India’s best known retired IPS offices, highlighted the importance of leadership, emphasising: “Leadership is internal – you start with yourself; if you can’t lead yourself, you can’t lead people.”

     

    This year, for the first time ever,  after over 50 years of being solo, the Advertising Club collaborated with The One Show.

    Discussing the ABBY Awards at Goafest 2022, Partha Sinha, President, The Advertising Club said, “2022 is definitely a landmark year because of the collaboration of the Abby  Awards with The One Show, and this is a game-changing proposition. It gives a platform to a plethora of agencies, enabling it to become more global. We owe it to the industry to bring something of global standing especially when we are one large world.”

     

    Speaking about the Abbys Awards, Rana Barua, Chairman, Abby Awards Governing Council 2022 & Vice President of The Ad Club said, “A staggering number of participants has been witnessed, surpassing all previous records. In addition to agencies that have participated since our inception, we have also seen those returning every year. Overall, the numbers are higher this month since we had to package everything together in one month. This year and henceforth, Goafest will be considerably bigger and more extravagant.”

    Media agency network Wavemaker pipped sibling Mindshare to be Agency of the Yeat the Emvie Awards held on Friday, March 25. The 22nd edition of the coveted Emvies happened in Mumbai with much fanfare and a full house. Hindustan Unilever was Client of the Year.

     

    The Advertising Club (TAC), this year, received 1054 entries with around 25 agencies participating. There were over 1200 professionals in attendance as 26 Gold and 51 Silver Emvie trophies being presented in addition to 42 Bronze Winners receiving recognition.

    Wavemaker with 395 points was ‘Media Agency of the Year’ and it also bagged the coveted the Grand Emvie for Mondelez India for the Cadbury Celebrations – Not Just a Cadbury Ad (Best Response to Covid 19). Mindshare with 375 points stood second and Lodestar with 160 points stood third.

     

    Hindustan Unilever Limited was declared ‘Media Client of the Year’. The Best Implementation Team of the Year award went to Wavemaker for Mondelez India Food Pvt. Ltd for Cadbury Celebrations  – Not Just a Cadbury Ad Google, the Presenting Sponsor, instituted special recognition for work done in the area of Inclusion. The campaign that backed the honour was McDonald’s  – Eatqual – One Bite Closer to Equality by DDB Mudra.   This will be a regular category in the EMVIE entry form from the next year.

    The Times of India Group instituted the Pradeep Guha trophy for the category Young Emvie of the Year.  The Pradeep Guha trophy was presented on stage by Partha Sinha, President, actor Dia Mirza, and Papia Guha wife of the Late Pradeep Guha.

    Abby, the awards presented by The Advertising Club, has joined hands with The One Show, the leading global awards program in advertising, design and digital marketing. Notes a communique: “The association creates a new gold standard in recognising and awarding the region’s best creativity by bringing global standards of judging, jury selection and transparency to the already revered and established Indian awards brand.

    The Advertising Club will host the Effie India Awards 2021 on Friday, October 29 at 7 pm. A club communique reports that 950 entries were received from as many as 51 Agencies participating.  As many as 317 marketing professionals, 132 planners, 19 media professionals and 52 specialists were part of the jury.

     

    Talking about this year’s Effie, Mitrajit Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Effie India Awards, The Advertising Club said: “We are delighted to host the Effie Awards again. We are overwhelmed how the industry has rallied together to enter 950 cases of work in a year that was severely impacted due to sustained lockdown and work from home.   • Partha Sinha elected Ad Club Prez, Rana Barua is Veep

    The Advertising Club announced the managing committee for FY 2021-2022 at its 67th Annual General Meeting. Partha Sinha, President – Response Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd., was elected unanimously to lead the body. Sinha replaces former BARC India CEO Partho Dasgupta who was President from 2019-21.

     

    Speaking about his appointment, Sinha said: “It’s an honour to be able to serve as the President of The Advertising Club. We have a very powerful management team this year and we want to do some meaningful engagement with the advertising, media and marketing community. Last 16 months have been really difficult for the fraternity and we would like to ensure that we work closely with everyone to get some of the mojo back. Our primary focus will remain excellence. We will celebrate excellence, train people to create excellence and create forums where people can exchange thoughts and ideas around excellence.”

  • The Advertising Club unveils next attraction of digital debate series

    The Advertising Club has announced a debate ‘There is no life beyond cricket in Indian sports’ as a part of its digital debate series ‘Vice & Versa’.

    Moderated by Gautam Bhimani, Vice & Versa edition to be held today (April 6) will see Shashi Sinha, CEO-India, Mediabrands and Boria Majumdar, historian and journalist going face to face to put forward their views on the biggest question in the minds of every sports fan in India – Is cricket’s domination complete or is India waking up to new sporting possibilities?
