  • OMG appoints Bharat Khatri as Chief Digital Officer for APAC

    Omnicom Media Group (OMG) has appointed Bharat Khatri as Chief Digital Officer for its operations across APAC. With over a decade of experience under his belt (he was last with GroupM’s X-axis), Khatri is tasked with leading digital marketing operations, productisation, commercials and governance efforts for the network in this region. Khatri will be based in India and reports to Paul Shepherd, Chief Investment Officer for OMG APAC.

  • PHD Media bags mandate for The Laughing Cow

    Omnicom Media Group’s PHD Media India has bagged the media mandate for Bel Group India’s brand The Laughing Cow. The Bel Group plans to add value to the cheese and healthy snack category in India with new product launches under The Laughing Cow brand.

  • Media seniors Harish Shriyan & Amit Ray join Network Advertising as Exec Directors

    Media agency biggies Harish Shriyan and Amit Ray have joined Network Advertising as Executive Directors. Shriyan was until recently Group CEO of Omnicom Media Group and has played a pivotal role in establishing Omnicom Media Group in India. Ray has headed the media function in Mudra, worked with Lintas Media Group and advised corporate players like Reliance Jio and ITC. He is also a specialist in media measurement.

     

    Speaking about the appointments, Vinod Nair, Managing Director, Network Advertising said: “We feel fortunate to induct someone like Harish with such invaluable experience in running a large, multifaceted media company. Harish understands deeply what it takes to build organizations. His perspectives and values, both on business and people, match ours. This is a welcome addition to Network.   • OMG is SAP’s Global Media AOR

    Omnicom Media Group (OMG) has been named media agency network-of-record for global software corporation SAP.. The decision follows an extensive review in which OMG presented North Star, a customised media unit that will draw talent, tools and technology from the entire Omnicom Media Group network  as a solution to continue the acceleration of SAP’s unified customer and brand experience.  SAP’s media business has been with OMG’s PHD Worldwide since 2015.

     

    Said SAP Global Chief Marketing Officer Alicia Tillman in a communique: “We are confident that Omnicom Media Group’s strategic capabilities, best-in-class tools and diverse, data-led approach will help SAP continue to grow our brand value, modernize our marketing capabilities to deliver innovative experiences most meaningful to our customers and the broader markets we serve,” adding: “Since 2016, we have grown our brand value over $18B and this new agency partnership will support our vision of executing in a more innovative, agile, flexible and efficient way for the continued benefit of our customers, stakeholders and for SAP’s global ecosystem.”

    The current PHD team will continue to support SAP through the transition period, which should be complete by end of year 2020.

     

     

  • Omnicom Media Group Kartik Sharma to helm Omnicom Media Group in India

    It’s now confirmed. Omnicom Media Group has appointed Kartik Sharma as CEO for its operations in India. Sharma joins the Omnicom entity from GroupM’s Wavemaker, where he was most recently CEO for South Asia. He is slated to join the network mid-year. His exit from Wavemaker was announced on Wednesday (January 29). The position was created after former OMG CEO Harish Shriyan’s exit was announced in July 2019.

     

    With over 25 years of media experience under his belt, Sharma has served in a leadership capacity at some of the largest agency networks, including Mindshare, Lintas Media, Madison Media and Maxus and managed clients such as L’Oreal, Mondelez, Netflix and Vodafone. In his new role, Sharma will work closely with Priti Murthy, CEO of OMD India, and Jyoti Bansal, CEO of PHD India, on chartering the continued growth of the agency brands in India.

     

    Speaking on the appointment, Tony Harradine, CEO of Omnicom Media Group Asia-Pacific, said in a statement: “A revered leader with an impressive track record, I am thrilled that Kartik has joined us. I have the utmost confidence in his ability to steer our business to even greater heights in one of the most important markets in Asia.”

     

    For those not in the know, Omnicom Media Group is the media agency network owned by Omnicom, the global. advertising services conglomerate. According to a report in Campaign, OMD occupies the top spot by projected billings in the COM vergence 2019 global billings rankings report. GroupM’s Mindshare is second in the ranking and Carat is #3. In India, GroupM occupies the top slot amongst media agency networks, and OMG is as of now perhaps at #5.

     

    Clearly, Sharma has his role cut out for him. He took charge of Maxus from Ajit Varghese in January 2014 and there has been no looking back since. Sharma has led both Maxus and Wavemaker to winning the coveted Agency of the Year title at the Emvies.

     

     

  • Sam Thomas is now Digital Lead at OMD India

    OMD India has strengthened the leadership of its digital offering, elevating Sam Thomas to the role of Digital Lead for the agency. Thomas will now work closely with CEO Priti Murthy and the agency’s senior management team.

     

    Having joined Omnicom Media Group India in late 2012, in his new role, Thomas will ensure the agency and its clients continue to navigate the digital space with clearer direction and therefore, take better and faster actions when it comes to new and emerging opportunities.

     

    Speaking on the promotion, Murthy said: “Sam truly is the face of our digital capability, having brought several of our clients’ brands to life in the digital space. He is a trusted voice among the agency and our clients, with unparalleled expertise in performance media. I am excited to have his talent and dedication onboard in driving further growth for OMD and our clients’ brands.

  • Harish Shriyan to step down as CEO of Omnicom Media Group. Mulling options, may get into start-up mode

    Harish Shriyan has decided to step down from his role as CEO of Omnicom Media Group India by the end of 2019. Over the next six months, Shriyan will work closely with the agencies’ senior leadership team to ensure a smooth transition for the business while the Group searches for a new CEO. Although the communique doesn’t state the reasons for Shriyan quitting, according to information we’ve received, he has been keen on doing it for a while and among the various things he is contemplating is get into start-up mode.

     

    Shriyan was promoted to the chief executive role in December 2017, having been with the Group since its establishment in 2007 and served as its Chief Operating Officer from 2013 to 2017.

     

    Speaking on his 12-year journey with the Group, Shriyan said in a statement: “I am incredibly honoured to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented individuals over the years and been part of the Group’s establishment and growth in India. Given its strength in the form of its unique brand positioning, talent pool, infrastructure and exemplary leadership, I am confident that this is the right time for me to pass the baton on. I also have every confidence that the Group and its agencies will continue to excel in India and will follow their journey with pride and admiration.”

  • Philippa Brown named CEO of PHD Worldwide

    Omnicom Media Group has named Philippa Brown CEO of PHD Worldwide.  Brown, who joins PHD from her role as CEO of Omnicom Media Group UK, succeeds Mike Cooper, who has named Group CEO, Omnicom Media Group APAC and EMEA.

     

    Since joining Omnicom Media Group in 2007, Brown has led OMG UK through a period of consistent growth and expansion.

     

    Said Omnicom Media Group CEO Daryl Simm on the appointment: “Philippa is a proven leader and a natural fit to lead PHD globally. As CEO of OMG UK, she has worked closely with Mike Cooper in the original positioning of PHD as a global network, and has been heavily involved in PHD’s international client successes. She has singular insight into PHD’s culture, the expectations that clients have of the agency, and the ongoing transformation required for success.”

     

    Commenting on her new role, Brown added: “Over the past decade, PHD has become one of the most respected agency networks in the industry. Its growth, thought leadership and award-winning work is a testament to Mike Cooper’s leadership, and the combined contributions of our many talented people all around the world. My job – working with all the PHD offices and our clients – is to now build on the great success that has already been achieved.”

     

    Brown’s appointment is effective July 1. She will be based in London, reporting to Simm.

     

     

  • Omnicom promotes Yatin Balyan to National Head of Investment and Enterprise

    In a move to strengthen its investment and enterprise offering, Omnicom Media Group India has elevated Yatin Balyan to the role of National Head of Investment and Enterprise. Reporting into Chief Investment Officer, Mamatha Morvankar, Balyan will now lead Omnicom Media Group’s trading and proprietary media arm, OMnet, in India, enhancing investment opportunities and cost efficiencies for clients of the Group’s agencies – OMD and PHD.

     

    Previously Vice President – Investment for OMD India, Balyan has been with the group for over a decade, working in multiple roles across media planning and investment, covering categories such as FMCG, Automotive, Mobile, BFSI and TV.

     

    “Yatin brings a wealth of experience from planning and investment to set up our media agnostic investment vertical,” says Mamatha Morvankar, Chief Investment Officer for Omnicom Media Group India. “His analytical capabilities have helped develop new media metrics in the ever-evolving media landscape.   • Parle Agro launches new #TheFrootiLife campaign

    Parle Agro has announced the launch of its latest #TheFrootiLife campaign for Summer 2018, undertaking a hyper-local marketing strategy with various initiatives specifically targeted towards different regions across the country.

     

    The campaign will feature two separate commercials… one featuring Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt and the second with Tollywood star Allu Arjun. This will be the first time that Frooti will be unveiling a region specific commercial specially catering to South India.

     

    Speaking on the new campaign, Nadia Chauhan, Joint Managing Director & CMO, Parle Agro said: “This year’s marketing strategy ensures higher focus on regional nuances to further build Frooti’s equity and position in the country. With our national campaign with Alia and the southern campaign with Allu Arjun, both of which are simple yet inventive, we are looking forward to creating further impact in the category and growing our share. Over the last two years we have gained in market share by 8 per cent, holding the number 2 position nationally at 29 per cent market share in the mango drink category and the number 1 position in multiple states.”

     

    The upcoming campaign for Frooti is created to build resonance of #TheFrootiLife, and build on the past campaign’s narrative. Sagmeister & Walsh, continues to be the creative agency on board, while the commercial is produced by Hornet Animations, New York, USA and directed by Yves Geleyn. The two television commercials are created with a mix of live action and stop motion animation, with Amit Trivedi creating the music for both spots.

  • Priti Murthy to join OMD India as CEO (from Maxus)

    Omnicom Media Group-owned agency, OMD India has bolstered its leadership strength with the appointment of Priti Murthy to the role of CEO. She joins OMD from Maxus where she has been Chief Strategy Officer. In her new role, Priti will lead OMD across all business functions, with a focus on building and leading future-ready teams, managing client relationships, and securing new business and growth. Her appointment is effective October 2017 and she will report to Torie Henderson, CEO, Omnicom Media Group, SEA & India. OMD India has completed a decade of being in India.. It may be recalled that in April this year, Jasmin Sohrabji who led the Omnicom Media Group (and OMD India specifically) moved to a global role and was replaced by Henderson.

     

    In a career spanning over two decades (of which 13 has been with GroupM’s Maxus) in media planning, insights and strategy, Murthy has led Maxus’s  development of Moribus, a behavioural science lab that attempts to merge the disciplines of behavioural science, sociology, and psychology to solve real-life business problems. She is also a certified coach that value adds to her leadership skills.

     

    “OMD India is marked by an outstanding global and local client roster, a full-fledged national presence and a very talented team committed to taking OMD India to even greater heights. Priti’s appointment will ensure OMD’s accelerated growth that will not only take OMD to the next level, but also stay at the forefront of change.
