  • J Walter Thompson crafts inaugural TVC for Junglee Rummy

    By A Correspondent

Junglee Rummy, the online gaming portal, launched its first television ad for rummy enthusiasts. Rummy is a popular skill-based card game in India that people play regularly in social circuits. Unlike other card games, Rummy requires a blend of mathematical skills and distinct memorizing capacity. Said that, the ad campaign conceptualised and crafted by J Walter Thompson Hyderabad; highlight the changing times and the aspiration quotient across age group to elevate oneself to the digital universe.

Capturing the strategic insight of the portal, the campaign highlights the convenience and liberty to play the game anytime, anywhere without any distraction; featuring brand ambassadors actor Prakash Raj and Rana Daggubati.

The Junglee Rummy TVC starts with the background score “Aao Khele Rummy”, inspired by the nostalgic tune from the 1957 Bollywood track “Sar jo Tera Chakraye”, which had the famous comedian Johnnie Walker singing it onscreen. The tune has been recreated to generate an eclectic mix of modern and old world that takes the viewers back to the yesteryears where a family is sitting in their living room playing a game of rummy. However, due to numerous distractions perpetrated by other family members, the protagonist – played by Raj – gets constantly interrupted, making it impossible for him to play his beloved game. Meanwhile, Daggubati, who is also a part of the family but is not playing the game, is having a lot of fun seeing Raj in such misery. In the end, he comes to Raj’s rescue and introduces him to JungleeRummy. The setting changes into the present era where they both play an uninterrupted game of Rummy on JungleeRummy.com. The idea is to showcase, in a very lucid manner and with a touch of humour, how JungleeRummy enables you to enjoy your favourite skill-based card game with absolutely no distractions.

Commenting on the campaigns differentiated offerings, Ram Gedela, Managing Partner, J Walter Thompson Hyderabad said, “Online businesses need to realize that they are in a space where the audience has the ability to accept or reject any brand engagement. So unless you are surprisingly entertaining first you cannot build your brand presence online and we managed to do exactly that.”

Speaking about the new TVC launch, Ankush Gera, Founder and CEO, Junglee Games said, “This is our first TVC with two of the most well respected and recognised celebrities in Indian cinema. By launching it on national television, we are letting every Indian know that Rummy, which has traditionally been one of the most popular skill-based card games in the country, is now available online to be played anytime and anywhere. Players can register for free on JungleeRummy.com and play games for free or for cash. The presence of Prakash Raj and Rana Daggubati would help Junglee Rummy establish a deeper connect with players in every region in the country.”

  • Are you ‘Getting what you deserve?’, questions Naukri.con in new campaign

Leading job website Naukri.com has unveiled its new TVC, “Getting what you deserve?” on the theme of addressing the comfort zone of employees and asking them to look for better job opportunities in the market. The primary thought behind this campaign is to empower the jobseekers to step out and get a job that they deserve. Successful employees often talk themselves out of making changes or even contemplating a job switch because of getting success at work. This TVC tries to change that perception with a simple question- Are you getting what you deserve, as there may be better opportunities waiting outside your comfort zone.

Getting what you deserve by Naukri.com will go on air on 23rd June, 2016 with a TV campaign across 20+ channels and will have language edits as well. The campaign will also be launched on digital media comprising of video, mobile, display and social media. It will also run across the website- Naukri.com and external media platforms as well.

Created by JWT, the TVC opens in a party set up where the star employee is dancing with his office colleagues. The employee waves to his boss who is sitting across the table with his counterparts. The boss discusses the possibility of this star employee moving out to get a better opportunity in the market. Fellow senior management people tell his boss that they will retain the employee by tempting him with new job offers or promotions which are nothing but farce.

Commenting on the campaign, Sumeet Singh, Group Chief Marketing Officer, Info Edge (India) Limited, said “The current campaign targets today’s employees , who are smart , know that they are doing well and while organisations might offer many a carrots to them, are these enough or do they deserve more is a question they need to answer for themselves and explore.”

Sanjeev Bhargava, Managing Partner, J. Walter Thompson, Delhi, added “People do not leave their jobs. They leave their bosses.” was the insight on which we had built the Naukri brand. Now times have changed. The smart employee is a coveted entity. The insight that organisations apply the most devious means (not necessarily in the best interest of the employee) to retain their best employees is the new insight on which the new Naukri communication is based.

  • Three factors causing a seismic shift in marketing and communications

    By Babita Baruah

It was a rare sunny day in snowy Boston when I walked down the corridors of Harvard Business School. I was a speaker for the India Conference 2016 in February, that saw personalities  celebrities like Shashi Tharoor, Karan Johar, Kamal Hassan, Chanda Kochhar, Chef Vikas Khanna and many others share their views on India in transition.

The marketing panel that I was a part of, was about making sense of a billion minds. It was an opportunity for me to speak about the three factors that, in my view, are causing a seismic shift in marketing and communications today. They are:

    1. Retail Infrastructure: Marketers are confident investors today because of the rise of retail. From malls to e-commerce that delivers to the remotest doorsteps. Along with improved media measurement tools, there is scope for better resource management and relatively-reduced wastage of goods and spends. This has resulted in a strong market. With multiple players that are breaking the strongholds of their predecessors.

    2. Media Explosion: I still remember the days my sister and I went to our neighbour’s house every Sunday to watch TV. Every programme is imprinted in my mind. There was hardly any choice then. We remembered everything we heard or saw or felt. Today, we have more than a thousand channels. Free content that brands have to vie with, in their communication. That smartphone in the hands of over 200 million people — that is the window of information, connection and entertainment and has helped the nation leapfrog to Web 2.0 and the Social Age. In this context, brands cannot restrict communication strategy to the tried and tested, but have to make unexplored moves in both creativity and ways of engagement.

    3. The Changing Mind: Our growing up years were about consumption being a social embarrassment. It was not something we flaunted. The Ambassador car was a sign of the times and of our mindset. We couldn’t go faster, even if we wanted to. Today, we are a nation of risk takers, tearing down the social fabric of family and tradition. Moving cities, investing in ourselves – all this leads to the forging of new ties. We are increasingly being connected by culture and technology as an enabler. Therefore, the expectation of people from brands today is way more than just an ad. It is about what the brand is giving me; how is the brand engaging with me; is there a platform where I can express myself, is there an issue being addressed that makes my life better, and such concerns. It is a challenging environment for brands. But in that challenge also lies potential — the meeting point of proposition, culture and technology. An exciting time indeed, for marketing today.
