Work has started in right earnest on MxMIndia’s Mediaperson of the Year. Last year, we presented the award to the BARC core team of Punit Goenka, Shashi Sinha and Partho Dasgupta. We have rechristened the award: the MxMIndia Mediaperson of the Year… it was called Mediaahperson of the Year until last year.
This year, we started our work right from the month of March. We decided to start making our assessment right from Q1 of the calendar year. This ensures that we don’t miss out on the high performers of the first two quarters who tend to get forgotten because November-December is the decision-making time, and only the stars of the last two quarters are mostly fresh in memory.
So who do you think should the 2016 Mediaperson of the Year be? Who do you think has done superlative work this work? Who has been a gamechanger? For her/his own organisation or for the industry/trade as a whole.
We’ve got a shortlist ready, and, we must tell you that while we were struggling in the first quarter, we did get some names. Q2 got some more, including a few which were in common with the Q1.
MxMIndia Mediaperson of the Year is announced on the second Friday of every December. This year, it’s December 9.
Please do note that the decision on the MxMIndia Mediaperson of the Year is not undertaken by a research firm or jury. We find the process open to influences and ‘waves’. The decision is taken solely by the editorial thinktank of MxMIndia. No influences, no quid pro quos, no commitment to advertise on MxMIndia.
We are also mulling separate awards for industry captains who typically get missed out from the big award, just because their sectors aren’t as high profile. But that’s still in the discussion stage.
Will we have an awards event this year? There are suggestions to have it. We aren’t sure. Perhaps we will, perhaps we won’t.
But then you can’t have all the khabar right now. Wait for it.
What we can assure you is that the MxMIndia Mediaperson of the Year is an honest and the most accurate barometer of achievement in the Indian media in a calendar year.
