In the light of the announcement that Dentsu APAC boss Ashish Bhasin has decided to seek early retirement, we thought we would ask our Wizard with Words this question. Without any further ado, here’s Dr Bhaskar Das in the November 15 edition of Das ka Dum.

Q. You are a living example of the longevity of Indian media professionals. Never considered retirement?
A. I doubt about your conclusion about me be the sole example of a long innings in the media industry. To my mind, there are many. There are three types of retirement:
1. it’s a fixed date when an individual completes his/ her corporate innings,
2. someone gets burnt out in his job and decides to quit and opt for a new innings in any other profession where he/ she feels rejuvenated
3. when someone feels mentally retired and just decides to go through the motions of life.
I am sure there are other varieties also eg a lot of young people say that they would retire early and enjoy the fragrance of LIFE as they wish.
In my case, I enjoy serving in whatever form. I intend to keep the classical term RETIREMENT out of my dictionary, God willing, as for me it’s another innings when I can REFIRE my energies to benefit others, corporations or individuals. And then one can remain a perpetual STUDENT and never have to retire.
But nazar mat dena, as I am enjoying my innings.
