  • Ad Club announces nomination list for ‘Marquees 2017’

    The Advertising Club has unveiled the nomination list for Marquees 2017 which is scheduled to be held on Friday, August 11 in Mumbai.

     

    The awards have been adjudged by industry leaders that includes Harsh Goenka, Chairman  RPG Enterprises, Ronnie Screwvala, Co-Founder – UpGrad; Agnello Dias – Chairman & Co-Founder, Taproot India; Naveen Chopra   Ex COO, Vodafone and Sr Advisor, TPG Capital; Dilip Cherian, Founding Partner, Perfect Relations and CVL Srinivas, CEO South Asia – GroupM. Sanjiv Mehta, CEO and Managing Director, Hindustan Unilever Limited is jury chair.

     

    Speaking on the nomination list, Raj Nayak, President, The Advertising Club said: “The diverse  jury panel has nominated path breaking marketeers who who each played an instrumental role in redefining benchmarks in their respective categories. The brands that have been nominated have been credited with curating campaigns that have facilitated social and behaviorial change.”

  • Samsung announced as 2017 Spikes Asia Advertiser of the Year

    Spikes Asia has announced that this year’s Advertiser of the Year will be awarded to Samsung Electronics following a hugely successful 2016 Festival where the company were recognised with 21 Spikes awards.

     

    The award honours brands that set themselves apart through the quality of their campaigns and recognises innovative marketing and inspiring creative communications. Said Terry Savage, Chairman Cannes Lions and Vice-Chairman, Spikes Asia:“Samsung Electronics is one of the world’s leading brands.     Winning Samsung campaigns at last year’s Festival ranged from product demonstrations using device detecting technology in ‘Celebrity Tantrum’ to demonstrate the features of the new screen to fearless marketing in launching the Galaxy S7 in the region using CRM and social media to convert attitudes in ‘Right the Wrong’. While the ambition to improve people’s lives through ‘Touchable Ink’, a tactile ink that could be used by printers to make products and packaging more accessible for the visually impaired was lauded and awarded three Grands Prix, one Gold, one Silver and two Bronze Spikes.

     

    Younghee Lee, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Electronics and Head of Global Marketing for Samsung’s Mobile Business will accept the Award onstage at the Spikes Asia Awards Ceremony on Friday, September 29. Speaking on the announcement, Lee said, “I am deeply honoured and humbled to accept the Spikes Asia Advertiser of the Year Award.   • Gopal Vittal to head high-powered IndIAA Awards jury

    The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) has released a list of initial confirmations of jury members for the third edition of their IndIAA awards which would be presented in Mumbai on September 8 in Mumbai.

     

    The jury members are: Gopal Vittal, CEO Bharti Airtel – Chairman; Members: Sunil Duggal, CEO, Dabur India; Suresh Narayanan, CMD, Nestle India;

    Shikha Sharma, MD & CEO, Axis Bank; Sunil Kataria, Business Head, India and SAARC, Godrej Consumer Products and President, ISA; Nitish Kapoor, SVP Regional Director South Asia & Managing Director,  Reckitt Benckiser India; Sanjeev Bikchandani, Founder & Executive Vice Chairman, Info Edge.

     

    Said Pradeep Guha, Chairman IndIAA Awards Committee: ”Any award is only as good as the jury who judges it, and I am very pleased to announce such a stellar list of names. These are people who have judged advertising every day and are best suited to decide on the merit of real work.”

  • Subho Sengupta to head Contract in Delhi

    Contract Advertising has appointed Subho Sengupta as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Contract Delhi. He joins from J Walter Thompson where he has spent  the last four years and was Senior VP and Executive Business Director.

     

    Commenting on the appointment, Raji Ramaswamy, CEO, Contract Advertising said: “Delhi is an important growth market and I am confident that Shubho Sengupta will be able to deliver value to our clients though his diverse category experience.   • I&B Minister Smriti Irani to be Chief Guest at Marquees

    The Advertising Club has announced that Textiles and Information & Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani will be Chief Guest of Honour at the inaugural edition of Marquees 2017 to be held on Friday, August 11 in Mumbai.

     

    Judged by a panel of industry captains consisting of Jury Chair Sanjiv Mehta,CEO and Managing Director, Hindustan Unilever Limited and other jury members which included Harsh Goenka, Chairman – RPG Enterprises, Naveen Chopra – Ex-COO, Vodafone & Senior Advisor – TPG Capital, Ronnie Screwvala, Co-Founder – UpGrad, Dilip Cherian, Founding Partner – Perfect Relations, Agnello Dias, Chairman & Founder – Taproot India & CVL Srinivas, CEO South Asia – GroupM.

     

    This is possibly the first major advertising and media industry event that Irani will attend after she took charge of MIB recently.

     

  • Suzuki Motorcycle assigns duties to Happy mcgarrybowen, dentsu X & MSL

    Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), a subsidiary of two-wheeler manufacturer, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, has announced new partners for the various communication purposes of the company.

     

    Happy mcgarrybowen, has been roped in as the new creative agency, while dentsu X, would be the media-partners for Suzuki two-wheelers henceforth. Both are a part of Dentsu Aegis Network. MSL India, Publicis Group’s strategic communications and engagement network, also comes on board as the public relation partner.

     

    “These are exciting times for Suzuki-two wheelers. Not only are we one of the fastest-growing two-wheeler manufactures in India, but also on cusp of an even greater growth.   • Mohit Anand to head Kellogg India & South Asia

    Kellogg India Pvt. Ltd has announced that Mohit Anand will be Managing Director for its India and South Asia business. Anand succeeds Sangeeta Pendurkar who resigned after a six-year stint at Kellogg India. He will also be a member of the Kellogg Asia Pacific leadership team.

     

    Anand joins Kellogg from Unilever where his last assignment was the Global Vice President spearheading the water purification category for the company based out of London. Said Amit Banati, President, Kellogg Asia Pacific:“We are pleased to have Mohit join Kellogg to lead our India and South Asia business. Mohit is an excellent leader with deep India, Asia Pacific and global experiences across a number of categories and I am excited to have him join us and build on Kellogg Indias legacy.”

  • Ajit Varghese to take on global role at MEC-Maxus merged entity

    Former Maxus India head and currently CEO of Maxus Asia Pacific Ajit Varghese is all set to take on a global role in the yet-unnamed entity born out of the merger of MEC and Maxus.

     

    Varghese will in all likelihood move to London as head of market development, looking after over 45 markets other than the top eight markets globally, including India.

     

    While for Varghese this would mean not overseeing India operations something that he has done with much success and passion (and aggression), but, industry insiders say, it’s a big promotion and can be the next step towards a bigger responsibility.

     

    According to reports, Tim Castree, the CEO of the merged entity, isn’t too keen on silos being set up in the form of regions. Hence all key market heads will report directly to him, and the rest – 45-odd currently – will be headed by Varghese. Varghese, who has spent 11 years in Maxus, had moved to the role of APAC CEO in January 14.

     

    Meanwhile, it’s also learnt that the CEO for the merged entity for India will be announced soon. While rumour mills suggest that it may be Kartik Sharma, given his success with Maxus South Asia since Varghese moved to a larger role and a healthy portfolio of clients in the Maxus kitty, one has to the await the final announcement on this for next week.

     

    A student of Xavier Insitute of Management, Bhubaneswar, Varghese was COO, Madison World before he joined Maxus in 2006.

     

  • Big Night for Marquee-ters!

    There are awards and awards and awards in the marketing services and media domains, but none which are purely for marketing, as against advertising-led marketing. The Advertising Club (TAC) India hosted the inaugural edition of its “Marquee Awards” last Friday with Information & Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani as Chief Guest. The awards saw brands being recognised for their excellence in marketing, building sustainable and pathbreaking brands.

     

    Hindustan Unilever won the Green Marketer Award, which honours brands that have been successful by keeping a close focus on environment sustainability. The Special Award for “Conquering an impregnable fortress” was won by beer brand Bira 91. Pro Kabaddi League was recognised as the brand that “Traversed unchartered waters” and Paytm was recognized for “Riding on an emerging wave”.  Honda Motorcycle & Scooter was awarded for “Breathing new life into a category”, Restaurant brad Indian Accent was recognised for “Creating a Global Impact” while Oppo was recognised for “Carving out a Niche” for themselves in a highly competitive category.

     

    Said the minister for the first time at an M&E event after assuming charge of I&B: “It fills me with a sense of deep gratitude and privilege that I stand here today as the Minister of the Information & Broadcasting. I am what I am today thanks to this industry,” adding: “The advertising industry inspires millions across this nation.  Having been a part of this journey, I have just one appeal this evening – while we sell dreams to the nation and world, there are many amongst us who wither away with the passage of time. All I implore today to the industry stalwarts is that we now, in a systemic fashion, build a platform that takes care of those who need help, specially from the creative faction of the industry, so that the world does not accuse us selling dreams but living a lie.”

     

    Speaking about the success of the Marquee Awards, Raj Nayak, President, The Advertising Club said: “Marquees 2017 has emerged as the gold standard in marketing awards. I thank the Honorable Minister for Textiles and Information & Broadcasting, Smt. Smriti Irani for gracing the maiden edition of Marquees 2017 as Chief Guest ad enhancing the prestige of the Marquees.
