Bhaskar DasThis is an aside he made in a Facebook post over the weekend. So we asked the question. Here’s Dr Bhaskar Das in the September 6 edition of Das ka Dum.

Q. We noticed you using the term ‘revenge socialisation’ in a social media post recently. Is it for real… given that people haven’t been able to socialise for months, and now want to meet up, as if there’s no tomorrow?

A. Yes, I meant it as I came out for an industry marquee event after more than 18 months. But it was responsible socialisation and not an irresponsible act. It was followed by all the members of the community.

I can’t help some indicative gyaan on the subject: The term ‘socialisation’ refers to a general process, but it generally takes place in a specific context. Socialisation is  also culturally specific. People in different cultures are socialised heterogeneously.  Sociologists have always been trying  to understand socialisation, but they do not get judgmental on different approaches  of socialisation as good or bad. They study practices of socialisation to determine why people behave the way that they do. In this case also, I used the term without any judgment and reconfirmed responsible socialisation by the marcom industry. Please don’t see any deeper strategic agenda.
