In a little over a month after the ABP group shut its Sananda TV general entertainment channel and in less than three months after Zee launched Zee Bangla Cinema, Star India has announced Jalsha Movies, a 24×7 Bengali movie channel that will ride on the success of its Bengali GEC Star Jalsha.
Scheduled to be launched on December 16, the promos declare: “Banglar Shobcheye boro…..cinema hall… Jalsha Movies”.
While the channel has tied up with a leading production company to have a constant supply of new and old films, the ITC Group’s Vivel is Channel Partner. While details of this alliance are not known, ITC and Vivel specifically have had a long-standing relationship with Star India.
