  • MSM appoints Humsa Dhir as SVP & Head, PR & Corporate Communications

    Humsa Dhir has joined MSM as Senior Vice-President (SVP) & Head – PR & Corporate Communications for the network. In this newly created role, she will lead MSM’s PR and Communications strategy and execute on pivotal campaigns, programs and activities that advance the network’s brand image and reputation. Humsa will report into NP Singh, CEO, MSM Network.

     

    Humsa has over 19 years of work experience across Advertising, Public Relations,  Corporate Communications and Public Affairs; having worked for the India, South Asia and Middle East markets. For the last three companies that she worked in, she has set up and established from scratch the Corporate Communications function;  encompassing marketing and brand communication, investor and media relations as well as communications around employee engagement.

    Prior to joining MSM, Humsa was with AkzoNobel India, where she managed the communications and Public affairs portfolio for the entire organization including its various business verticals. Her responsibilities stretched from building and managing the corporate brand to overseeing reputational matters, including crises. Internal communications as well as CSR were also central to her responsibilities. Some of Humsa’s previous work stints have been with Suzlon, the Eicher group, RK Swamy BBDO as well as J Walter Thompson.

  • After Six, Sony out with second sports channel – KIX

    Multi-Screen Media (MSM) announced the launch of the new sports channel named SONY KIX, which is set to broadcast the best in sports and entertainment in India. The channel is MSM’s second foray in sports after SONY SIX.

     

    As part of its line-up, KIX will air the Pepsi IPL, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Australian Open Tennis Championship, National Football League (NFL), Rugby World Cup 2015, premier fight sports properties such as Glory World Series and CSI Boxing alongside some marquee events in football and rugby.

    Speaking at the launch of KIX, NP Singh, CEO, MSM commented, “Sports has always been a core focus for us right from our early days. Our entertainment and movie channels such as SET, MAX and PIX have also, over the years, broadcast some of the landmark sports events both in India and internationally.     One of SONY KIX’s flagship offerings would be the Pepsi IPL, which begins from April 8 this year and will be telecast on the channel in English, Tamil & Telugu. The telecast will be in conjunction with that of SIX and MAX, which will show the tournament in English and Hindi, respectively.

  • Sony Six bags broadcasting rights for Australian Open

    Sony Six is set to telecast the Australian Open – The Grand Slam of Asia-Pacific, in India for a duration of five years. The channel will exclusively telecast all matches of the tournament live from 2015 till 2019.

    The Australian Open will be the channel’s first entry into broadcasting a Grand Slam event, having shown select ATP tournaments earlier.

     

    Commenting on the development, NP Singh, CEO, MSM said, “Over the years, the Australian Open has established itself as one of the most watched tennis Grand Slams across the world. Going by the strong equity that the sport enjoys, we are committed to expand the distribution of the tournament further and thereby strengthen our position in the market.”

  • AXN India and CBS Studios announce television content deal

    Multi Screen Media’s leading English Entertainment Channel in India, AXN, has announced a multi-year content deal with CBS Studios International. The new deal gives AXN access to all content distributed by CBS, including the exclusive rights to air some of CBS’s biggest existing television series, like Hawaii Five-0 and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, as well as the rights to all new shows produced by CBS Television Studios.

     

    CBS Studios International distributes some of the best long-running shows, like Blue Bloods, Survivor, Elementary, Beauty and the Beast, NCIS, Hawaii Five-0, among others. This year’s line-up has shows including CSI: Cyber, a spin-off of the hit CSI franchise focused on the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI, and NCIS: New Orleans, a spin-off of the popular NCIS procedural set in the Big Easy. Other new CBS dramas include Madam Secretary, which stars Téa Leoni as the newly appointed Secretary of State, and Scorpion, about an eccentric genius and his team of brilliant misfits who help protect against high-tech threats of the modern age.

  • MSM unveils sports entertainment offering – LIVSports.in

    Multi Screen Media (MSM) announced the launch of LIV Sports, a premier digital sports entertainment destination – www.LIVSports.in. The digital destination will present one-point access to the right mix of sports and entertainment innovatively across devices. Coming from the Sony Network, LIV Sports will target the avid sports fan as well as entertainment seekers.

     

    LIV Sports is the official mobile and internet broadcaster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup starting 12th June 2014. LIV Sports will show both live and video-on-demand match content, with rich and informative statistics and analysis.

    It’s been in the work as per the grapevine. Multi-Screen Media Private Limited (MSM) has announced that Sneha Rajani, will assume the position of Deputy President and Head, MSM Motion Pictures. Nachiket Pantvaidya, who has recently joined the network, takes over as Senior. Executive VP & Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television (SET). Anooj Kapoor, will assume additional responsibilities as Senior Executive VP and Business Head, SAB, and also a new initiative in the Hindi entertainment space.

    Said N P Singh, CEO, MSM on the announcement, “I am certain that Sneha, Nachiket and Anooj will revitalize and provide fresh perspective to their respective areas of responsibility.     Ms Rajani, who has been Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television, will have end-to-end responsibility for MSM Motion Pictures and will chart the success and future of that business as a key force in movie production. She has been associated with MSM for over 15 years and has previously been Business Head, Max, which she launched and led for 10 years before assuming responsibility of the flagship GEC.

     

    Mr Pantvaidya who was the Business Head of Star Plus and also held several roles in the Star India network, including being the Head of Star Pravah and MD of FOX Television Studios will now head SET. An IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, Nachiket has had stints with BBC and Disney in the past. He has also held several positions in MSM from 1996 to 2004.

     

    Meanwhile, Mr Kapoor will With the success of SAB, Anooj has demonstrated capability for building differentiated audiences for the network. Anooj has been with MSM since 2007. Prior to joining MSM, Anooj worked with Colgate Palmolive as product manager, Lowe Lintas as Creative Director and also ran his own production advertising company. He has a Masters in English Literature and a MBA from SP Jain Institute of Management Studies.

     

  • Sony Six scores big with FIFA World Cup Brazil & Russia rights

    The last two months has seen Star Sports dominate most sporting rights news, but in the last fortnight-odd, the attention has moved from Star Sports HQ at Mahalakshmi to Malad where Multi Screen Media’s Sony Six office is located.

     

    ‎The channel has bagged the broadcast rights to the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup. The 2014 edition will be held in Brazil from June 12 to July 13 and the 2018 edition from June 8 to July 8 in Russia. The deal also includes rights to broadcast FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2017 to be hosted by India.

     

    This latest acquisition by Sony Six comes on the back of broadcasting the UEFA and Conmebol matches from the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying rounds, in addition to acquiring the rights for qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2016 and UEFA Euro 2016. The line-up makes Sony SIX the home of International Football for the next 5 years with 17 landmark FIFA events including (2014+2018 W’Cups, the U-17 in India and the Confederation Cup Russia 2017).

  • Man Jit Singh is king at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

    We were told that another announcement was coming on Monday. And we thought it could possibly concern the elevation of someone to the position of COO, now that NP Singh has been elevated.

     

    But that hasn’t happened, not yet. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that Man Jit Singh has been named President of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE), reporting to Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

    Mr Man Jit Singh, who was previously Chief Executive Officer, Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd. (MSM), the operating company that manages Sony Pictures Television’s TV networks in India, will continue as Non-Executive Chairman at MSM while transitioning from his role in the television division to his new role in Home Entertainment.

     

    As reported earlier, Mr NP Singh, formerly Chief Operating Officer at MSM, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, managing Sony Pictures Television’s Indian TV networks. Mr NP Singh will report to Andy Kaplan, President, Worldwide Networks, Sony Pictures Television.

     

    “Man Jit is a savvy global executive with a long track record of success at Sony Pictures, having built our Indian TV channels into high-performance, high-margin businesses. I am confident in his vision for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and his ability to provide strong leadership for the division as the marketplace continues to evolve,” said Mr Lynton.

     

    At SPHE, Mr Man Jit Singh will continue the studio’s focus on reducing overhead costs, while growing high-margin businesses, according to a communiqué.

     

    Man Jit Singh has a strong background in technology, entertainment, and consumer products, with over 20 years of experience in global operations. He has worked in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Since 2009, he has overseen Sony Pictures Television’s Networks business in India where he was previously Chairman of the Board of Directors of MSM. He spent much of his early career in general management consulting, and he held senior positions at firms including Sibson & Co., LLP in Los Angeles, The Cast Group AG in Zurich, Switzerland and Los Angeles, and Cresap in Los Angeles. Man Jit began his career at Nestle India.

Mr Krishnan comes in with over 17 years of experience in media and consulting sectors.  In his previous role, he was Chief Operating Officer of Neo Sports Broadcast Pvt Ltd.  His other previous stints include Nimbus Media, The Times of India Group and Arthur Andersen.

  • Multi Screen Media forays into film production with MSM Motion Pictures

    Leading broadcaster Multi Screen Media Private Limited has ventured into film production under the banner of MSM Motion Pictures.

     

    The new venture has collaborated with Eros International for its first film titled ‘Bajate Raho’ that is set for release on July 26. Three other films are on the floors and set for release later this year.

    According to sources, MSM Motion Pictures will be associated with medium budget ventures to start with but will eventually go in for big, solo productions. Initially Mr Man Jit Singh, CEO of MSM Network and Mr NP Singh will personally oversee the division.

     

  • Sony Six wins broadcasting rights to Euro qualifiers, FIFA World Cup

    Sports channel Sony Six has won the exclusive broadcasting rights across the Indian sub-continent for the European Qualifiers to UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

    The new arrangement with UEFA provides Sony Six with coverage of 546 international matches in total, over three years, starting with UEFA EURO 2016 qualifiers in September 2014 to November 2015 with 10 matches of each national team across 12 match weeks. In addition to this, Sony Six will also broadcast the 2018 FIFA World Cup (European) Qualifiers starting September 2016 to November 2017. With this acquisition, viewers will enjoy some of the best international footballing action exhibited by the best players of the sport in their national colours over the next four years.

     

    Commenting on this, Man Jit Singh, CEO, MSM India, said, “The Qualifiers starting from 2014 through 2017 will set the stage for two of the biggest tournaments in World Football – the UEFA Euro 2016 and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
