  • MxM Live with Shruti Pushkarna: On the India’s performance at the Paris Paralympics & coverage of disabilities

The Indian team’s performance at the Paris Paralympics was exemplary, but did our media do enough justice to this? Vis-a-vis the various wins at the Olympics for the Abled, also held recently?

MxMIndia has always held the belief that the media has a critical role to play in improving the world for the disabled in India. And it’s with this objective, we invited Shruti Pushkarna, a former colleague (and member of the MxMIndia founding team) to write a column focusing on disability and the media.

Through nearly five years, she has written 99 articles (columns, as we call them), and this discussion on the eve of Column #100 with MxMIndia editor-in-chief Pradyuman Maheshwari also touched upon on what the Indian media should do to better its coverage. For, Persons with Disabilities need empathy, not sympathy.

    Do check this engaging conversation.

Apologies, we do not have this in sign language, but we will try and see if we can manage it….

  • MxM Live with Saurabh Varma, Wondrlab

Saurabh Varma’s exit from the Publicis Groupe In December 2019 was much discussed. But what was never really debated was the great value and out-of-the-box thinking that he brought into Leo Burnett.

After 329 days of moving out from Publicis Communications, Saurabh Varma set up Wondrlab with former colleagues Vandana Verma and Rakesh Hinduja. Wondrlab is being billed as India’s largest platform-first martech firm and will have three key verticals – Content, Experience and Digital business transformation.

In a 25-odd-minute interview with MxMIndia founder and editor-in-chief Pradyuman Maheshwari, Saurabh Varma talks about the thinking behind Wondrlab and the concept of a “platform-first martech” firm. Of course he promises to reveal more in the days to come – four weeks to 18 months. Sigh.

  • MxM Live with Amit Akali, Founder & CCO, What’s Your Problem

His agency created the much discussed Tanishq Ekatvam advertising, which was trolled and taunted on the social media. These led to threats against the company’s personnel which finally led to the ad being pulled out. Post that there were reports of one or more Tanishq stores being vandalised and with miscreants forcing the store manager to issue an apology. At the same time, there has been a huge outpouring of love for the brand with people resolving to patronise it more than ever before.

MxM Live spoke with Amit Akali, Founder, MD & CCO What’s Your Problem and CCO, Medulla on the advertising. And whether it would impact the creative process going forward. Akali also spoke about some of the work that his agency has been doing, beyond Tanishq.

  • MxM Live with Subhash Kamath

    By Pradyuman Maheshwari

Last Thursday, September 10, CEO of BBH-Publicis Worldwide Subhash Kamath was unanimously elected Chairman of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). We interviewed him a day later as part of the MxM Live Leadership Series, and Kamath was, as always, his candid best.  But first a disclosure, I have been a part of ASCI’s Consumer Complaints Council for a few years, but that I must tell you is purely coincidental.

A little about Kamath: He has been in the business of building brands for over three decades (32 years, to be precise), 22 of which have been in senior leadership roles.  Over those many years, he has worked in renowned creative agencies in India like Ogilvy, Trikaya Grey, Ambience Publicis and Bates 141. He was one of the founding Managing Partners at BBH India in 2009 and currently serves as the CEO for BBH & Publicis Worldwide, India which is part of the Publicis Groupe.

Kamath  has been an active member of The Ad Club in the past and has served on the Board of Governors of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) since 2010. He plays in a rock band called ‘Wanted Yesterday’, and is crazy about cricket, single malts and good food.

  • MxM Live with Partha Sinha. Free, Frank, Freewheeling

So on Saturday, August 15, The Times of India had a blockbuster of an edition across many centres. Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad and perhaps a few others. We thought it was a good time to pitch for an interview with Partha Sinha, President – Response at Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd (BCCL), better known as The Times of India group.

Sinha had joined BCCL with much fanfare in March this year, just a few days before the Lockdown was effected. We had wanted to interview him on the day we first heard of the news – sometime in late Jan or early Feb, but guess it had to be under wraps. And then the Lockdown happened, and we didn’t think it right to stress him.

When we learnt from his team about the super-thick editions, we thought it would the right time to pitch. They agreed. And so did he.

So without further ado, here’s the interview. Free, frank and freewheeling. The interview talks about the blockbuster edition but delves into his views on the print business. Heck, why are we telling you this. Watch. Enjoy. Like.
