  • Kyoorius partners with ‘Indian Creative Women’

    By Our Staff

Kyoorius has announced its partnership with Indian Creative Women, an independent forum working on amplifying the percentage of women creative directors in the Indian Advertising and Design industry. In collaboration with them, Kyoorius has come up with a host of initiatives that will boost gender equality on their stage and in the industry.

One of these is the Zee Equality Award – The Purple Elephant, which will recognise and reward work that has addressed and impacted gender inequality in India through innovative thinking. The colour ‘purple’ signifies justice, dignity and has been historically associated with efforts to achieve gender equality. The winners will be decided by a special jury to be announced shortly.

Said Sakshi Choudhary, Founder – Indian Creative Women: “Kyoorius is one of the most credible and influential award bodies in Asia. Every year, it brings powerful brands and agencies of India on one platform. We’re delighted to partner with them to drive real change. This year, they are a shining example and a true benchmark of what this industry can achieve on gender diversity. Our wish is to see each decision-making room in agencies as balanced as the Kyoorius jury room this year.”

Added Rajesh Kejriwal, Founder and CEO, Kyoorius: “We have, since inception, been cognizant of the role of a platform like Kyoorius in achieving gender balance and equality in everything that we do. We are delighted to partner with Indian Creative Women for the Purple Elephant Award. • Viacom and MTV win Gold at Montreux Festival

    By Our Staff

This news ought to have appeared on Tuesday, but we were too caught up with the cyclone that thankfully didn’t hit Mumbai, though our friends elsewhere weren’t as lucky. Our apologies.

  • Dentsu Webchutney & FCB star at Cannes

    By Our Staff

In 2019, the Indian marketing services contingent put on a very sorry figure at Cannes Lions, the annual festival of creativity in advertising. Entrants from India brought back 19 metals, just one more than what they earned the previous year. But this year, the number has grown by three, and Indian entrants bagged a total of 22 metals – in various hues – Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Dentsu Webchutney bagged 50 points if one includes shortlists followed by FCB Interace with 48 points. But as a group FCB that includes FCB Ulka and FCB Interface bagged 8 metals including one Gold, three Silver and four Bronze, followed by Digital Agency Dentsu Webchutney with seven metals.

In 2021, Webchutney beat their previous record with 20 shortlists and 7 Lions.

Said Sidharth Rao, CEO, Dentsumcgarrybowen (dentsuMB) India and founder of Webchutney: “2019 showed us Webchutney was capable of creative excellence at the highest level. 2021 showed it was about doing it consistently – the wins this year have firmly planted the ‘new normal’ of what Webchutney’s north star as an agency is. The agency is home to some incredible talent and is a shining example of what the dentsuMB group of agencies and dentsu India itself wants to stand for.”

Added PG Aditiya, NCD, Dentsu Webchutney added: “This year’s Cannes Lions is probably our most meaningful one yet. A huge round of applause for our teams across the country, both past and present, & gratitude to our clients who’ve shape-shifted the status-quo of Indian creativity at a global level, with us. And congratulations to the teams behind all the winning work from India.”

For FCB, the metals came in for The Punishing Signal for the Mumbai Police and Times Out & Proud for The Times of India.

Speaking on the win, Rohit Ohri, Chairman & CEO, FCB Group India, said: “Our pride of Lions bears testimony our commitment to putting creative excellence at the center of everything we do. Over the last three years we’ve been the best performing Indian agency at Cannes. Like they say… once is a chance, twice is a co-incidence and three times is a habit. I’m really proud of how far we’ve come on our creative transformation journey.”

  • @Effie2021: McCann rules again. HUL tops client roster

    By Our Staff

If you don’t see the customary photograph of the winning agency folk in jubilation on stage, it’s because this is an awards event being held in the pandemic.

Although the restrictions on holding events has eased, the Effie Awards is different. In normal years, one needs to visit an ENT specialist on the day after. Given all the hullabaloo that happens. Heck, are we getting confused with the Emvies. Perhaps yes. It’s been a while since the Advertising Club has had one of its top draw award shows, and although the International Advertising Assoication conducted three awards in Mumbai in the last month-odd, the Ad Club Effies are decidedly the most coveted.

The reason is simple: It measure efficiency of the creative. And it’s a part of a global network of awards. So the scores here add up to the global rankings and which are exceedingly critical for worldwide client pitches.

Under normal circumstances, an MxM report wouldn’t have highlighted the sponsors of the event, but given the times we live in, every sponsorship needs to be recognised. So: Colors was presenting sponsor. The event was powered by MX Player and Aditya Birla Capital was Category Sponsor.

So you’ve read the headline, but here’s it again: Hindustan Unilever and McCann Worldgroup India bagged the Client and the Agency of the Year titles respectively while The Ogilvy Group and Mondelez India were awarded the Grand Effie for Cadbury Dairy Milk’s campaign “Melting Power Distance”.

Effie Awards 2021 were held virtually this year, so it was minus all the hooting and cheer, and minus Brian Tellis as the sponsor. The only bright spot was that the event started on time ended way before most people have consumed their third.

The good news is that the Ad Club received a record 950 entries and saw participation from 51 agencies.

Speaking about the participants and winners at the coveted Effies, Partha Sinha, President of The Advertising Club said: “Looking at the cases that have won here today, you will know for a fact that this is the highest level of award in this country. Effie India today is the most definitive award in the country – and is revered by both the client and the agency. I want to thank every single member of the jury, the participating agencies and the sponsors. You know that this award has reached the level thanks to all of you. Let the celebrations continue but more importantly let the effectiveness culture continue. As I had mentioned before we are going to hold Effie effectiveness workshops in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Watch this space for more details.”

Elaborating on the awards, Mitrajit Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Effie India said: “It gives me great pleasure to deliver the first virtual awards presentation of Effie India. It has been a long and tough journey over the past one and half years to bring this to life. To judge 950 entries over two rounds of judging by 520 judges, with minimal physical meetings has been quite a task. I thank each participating agency and client for their support. And a big thank you to our sponsors, the Ad Club managing committee, Effie committee and the Ad Club secretariat to make this possible.”
