  • Tista Sen and Priya Shivakumar elevated at JWT

    J Walter Thompson has announced the elevation of Tista Sen as Regional Creative Director. Sent, currently a National Creative Director, will now have the additional oversight of JWT Sri Lanka.

  • IAA to felicitate Raj Nayak with ‘Champion Award’

    Viacom18 COO Raj Nayak is being felicitated at the global level. At the annual International Advertising Association (IAA) Inspire awards to be held at Bucharest next week (on October 2) with advertising and marketing leaders from all over the world in attendance, Nayak who is also a past president of IAA India,will be felicitated with the ‘Champion Award’. Nayak will be recognised for his excellence in leadership, vision and distinguished services of leaders in the IAA and his contributions to advancing the IAA and communications in the worldwide marketing communications industry.

  • Punit Goenka is new IAA India President

    Punit Goenka, Managing Director & CEO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), is the new President of the the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA). The election happened at the IAA India chapter’s AGM on September 24 in Mumbai.

    Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands India, was elected Vice President. The officebearers ​for the year will be Pradeep Dwivedi, CEO, Sakal Media Group as Honorary Secretary, Jaideep Gandhi, Founder, Another Idea continues as Honorary Treasurer and Ramesh Narayan is of course the  Immediate Past President. ​

     

    The members of the Managing Committee elected include Megha Tata, COO, BTVI, Janak Sarda Director, Deshd hoot Group, M V Shreyams Kumar, Joint MD, Mathrubhumi Group, I Venkat, Director, Eenadu and  Abhishek Karnani, Director, Free Press Journal. The list of members co-opted and invited to the Managing Committee will be announced soon.

    Recently, Goenka has relinquished office as President of the IBF. During his tenure as MD & CEO, Zee has won several awards including the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Award 2015, IMC Fusion Award 2013 for Excellence in Media, Business world Infocom ICT Award 2012 and many more. Goenka was conferred the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Media’ award at the Managing India Awards hosted by AIMA in 2018. He has also received Business Today ‘Best CEO Award’ in the Media and Entertainment category for 2016, MIPTV’s Médailled’ Honneur Award 2016, Economic Times ‘40 Under Forty’ India’s Hottest Business Leaders Award 2014, the ‘Young CEO Award’ by CEO India magazine in 2015 and the IAA Leadership Award 2014 under the category of ‘Media Person of the Year Award’. Goenka has also been recognised as the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ during the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2014. Goenka was felicitated as the ‘Impact Person of the Year’ in 2014.

    Other than his leadership of the Zee group and various industry associations, its his gamechanging stint as Chairman of television measurement body BARC that has been hailed widely. In fact along with Shashi Sinha and Partho Dasgupta, Goenka received the MxMIndia Media person of the Year award in December 2015.

    Speaking on his new role as the President of IAA, Goenka said: “It is an honour for me to take over the mantle of leading the India Chapter of IAA. I am humbled by the faith and trust that my friends and colleagues from the Industry have bestowed on me. It will be my sincere endeavour to work towards strengthening the India Chapter of this prestigious association, taking up initiatives that address key industry concerns and are aimed at enhancing the ecosystem.”

    Added outgoing President Ramesh Narayan: “I am delighted that Punit Goenka is taking over as President IAA. His well-known leadership skills and the respect he commands in our industry will undoubtedly take the IAA India Chapter to greater heights. Shashi Sinha is a doyen of the advertising industry and a known performer in industry Associations. The combination is unbeatable.” Narayan completed a one-year tenure as President where he also reactivated the IAA India chapter after a one-year period of relative inactivity.

  • WPP merges Y&R with VML. Jon Cook to oversee ops

    WPP has announced the creation of a new agency, VMLY&R, uniting two leading brands to deliver a contemporary, fully integrated digital and creative offering to clients on a global scale.

     

    Notes a communique: VMLY&R’s proposition will combine brand experience and brand advertising, drawing on the complementary expertise of VML and Y&R to create connected brands that drive value for clients.

     

    The new agency will be led by Global Chief Executive Officer Jon Cook, who is currently Global CEO of VML. Jon will report to Mark Read, Chief Executive Officer of WPP. David Sable, former Global CEO of Y&R, will continue to support Cook, VMLY&R and its clients as Non-Executive Chairman as he transitions to a new role in WPP.

     

    Added Read: “VMLY&R will be a powerful brand experience offering and a core agency brand for WPP. VML and Y&R have distinct and complementary strengths spanning creative, technology and data services that make them a perfect match.     Exide has unveiled its new campaign titled #WhatDrivesYou. For this campaign, Exide XIDE came across Siddhikant Mishra from Bhubaneswar, who is an example of people that have an extraordinary drive. He is a mathematics major by qualification, and a speed cuber by passion.

  • Digitas elevates Mark McDonald to Head of Creative, India

    Digitas has announced the elevation of Mark McDonald to a national role as Head of Creative, India. Prior to this, McDonald was leading the creative team for the agency’s Mumbai office.

     

    In his new role, McDonald will oversee the creative team and output for Digitas across its offices in India including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. He will report to Prithviraj Banerjee, Executive Director, Digitas India.

  • Setu appoints Lowe Lintas as its creative agency

    Setu, a natural nutritional supplements brand, has awarded their creative mandate to Lowe Lintas. The win comes on the back of Lowe Lintas’ strong experience in successfully building startup brands, a few of which have become ‘Unicorns’, with valuations exceeding USD 1 Bn.

  • Spikes Asia 2018 winners announced

    The Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity concluded by honouring the best creative work from across Asia-Pacific.

    3 Gold Spikes, 6 Silver Spikes, 17 Bronze Spikes and a Grand Prix went to DDB New Zealand, Auckland for ‘Fight for Territory’ for Steinlager from the 395 entries received.

     

    Creative Effectiveness
    2 Spikes were awarded from 29 entries. The Grand Prix was awarded to CHE Proximity, Melbourne, Australia for ‘The Billion Point Giveaway‘ for Velocity Frequent Flyer.

     

    Design
    From 323 entries 4 Gold Spikes, 14 Silver Spikes and 16 Bronze Spikes were awarded and Host/Havas, Sydney, Australia was awarded the Grand Prix for ‘Palau Pledge’ for Palau Legacy Project.

     

    Digital
    4 Gold Spikes, 8 Silver Spikes and 17 Bronze Spikes were awarded from the 361 Digital Spike entries along with a Grand Prix for ‘SelfieSTIX’, for Mars New Zealand, by Colenso BBDO, Auckland, New Zealand.

     

    Digital Craft
    From 109 entries 2 Gold Spikes, 2 Silver Spikes and 6 Bronze Spikes were awarded. The Grand Prix was presented to Six Inc Tokyo / Spa Hakuhodo.CO. LTD., Bangkok, Japan for their campaign ‘Obsession for Smoothness’ for Double A.

     

    Direct
    Host/Havas, Sydney, Australia received their second Grand Prix for their ‘Palau Pledge’ for Palau Legacy Project. A further 4 Gold Spikes, 6 Silver Spikes and 13 Bronze Spikes were awarded from the 290 entries into the Direct category.

     

    Entertainment
    The Entertainment Grand Prix was presented to GREYnJ UNITED, Bangkok, Thailand for their campaign ‘Friendshit’ for Kasikornbank PCL. 2 Gold Spikes, 3 Silver Spikes and 8 Bronze Spikes were also awarded from the 142 entries.

     

    Film
    ‘Friendshit’ by GREYnjUNITED, Bangkok, Thailand won its second Grand Prix, for Kasikornbank PCL. 361 entries were submitted and 2 Gold Spikes, 6 Silver Spikes and 10 Bronze Spikes were awarded.

     

    Film Craft
    Of the 364 Film Craft entries 6 Gold Spikes, 18 Silver Spikes and 20 Bronze Spikes were awarded. The Grand Prix went to ‘Stop the Horror’ for Go Gentle Australia by Revolver/Will O’Rourke, Sydney / Cummins&Partners, Sydney, Australia.

     

    Glass
    In its first year the Glass Spike received 37 entries and the inaugural Grand Prix was presented to FCBULKA, Gurgaon, India for ‘Sindoor Khela – No Conditions Apply’ for The Times of India . A further three Glass Spikes were awarded

     

    Healthcare
    Y&R ANZ, Melbourne, Australia won the Healthcare Grand Prix for the entry ‘Sip Safe’ for Monash University. 4 Gold Spikes, 6 Silver Spikes and 11 Bronze Spikes were awarded from the 189 entries.

     

    Innovation
    From the 35 entries into the Innovation category the Grand Prix was presented to BWM Dentsu, Sydney, Australia for ‘Project Revoice’ for The ALS Association, with 2 Innovation Spikes also awarded.

     

    Integrated
    ‘Palau Pledge’ received its third Grand Prix for Host/Havas, Sydney, Australia. 3 Silver Spikes and 1 Bronze Spike were also awarded from the 45 entries.

     

    Media
    The Media Grand Prix was presented to Host/Havas, Sydney, Australia for ‘Palau Pledge’, for Palau Legacy Project and the jury also awarded 3 Gold Spikes, 12 Silver Spikes and 12 Bronze Spikes from the 318 entries submitted.

     

    Mobile
    109 entries were submitted to the Mobile category with 3 Gold Spikes, 3 Silver Spikes and 6 Bronze Spikes awarded and a Grand Prix for ‘We Remit’ for Tencent by Tencent, Shenzhen, China.

     

    Music
    ‘#GiveABeat – A Song for Heart Disease Driven by the Percussion of Heartbeats’ for Max Healthcare & Max Group, by Propaganda India, Bangalore was awarded the Music Grand Prix. 1 Gold Spike, 2 Silver Spikes and 2 Bronze Spikes were awarded out of the 51 entries.

    From the 156 entries submitted 3 Gold Spikes, 5 Silver Spikes and 4 Bronze Spikes were awarded. No Grand Prix was awarded

  • Mindshare, Madison bag top honours at Smarties

    The Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) announced winners of its 2018 Smarties India Awards held on Friday, September 28 in conjunction with MMA Forum India

     

    Mindshare India and Madison Communications led the most wins, receiving 14 and 7 awards respectively across 19 categories, ranging from Brand Awareness, Most Engaging Mobile Creative and Social Impact/Not for Profit, amongst others. In the industry awards segment, Flipkart Internet was awarded ‘Publisher of the Year’, Mindshare India was recognised as ‘Agency of the Year in Mobile’ while MTV Roadies clinched both the esteemed ‘Marketer of the Year’ and ‘Best in Show’ with ‘When India Dared to Stare’ by Madison Communications.

     

    Before the awards ceremony, the MMA Forum was held where topics around managing the complex marketing landscape, and mobile attribution was discussed. There were also conversations around mobile video and over-the-top (OTT) distribution.

     

    Said Priya Nair, Executive Director of Homecare Hindustan Unilever Limited, and Jury Chair of MMA Smarties India said: “This year’s winners exhibited beyond the brand’s story and connected with the user.
