  • Warner Bros. Discovery revamps DTamil Channel

    Warner Bros. Discovery has announced a revamp of its DTamil Channel.

    In its new avatar, DTamil will feature Hollywood blockbusters from the Warner Bros. catalogue, top global superhero shows, classics, and its signature non-fiction programming. The channel will also feature local original productions from Discovery+ and Discovery Channel.

  • Cartoon Network and Pogo roll out 17th Edition of School Contact Programme

    Cartoon Network and Pogo are set to engage with one million children across nearly 1400 schools across 17 cities as part of the 17th edition of the School Contact Programme (SCP).

  • Warner Bros. Discovery partners with Posterscope

    Warner Bros. Discovery has teamed up with Posterscope to launch a new campaign for ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire’. Posterscope has created a larger-than-life mural painting in Mumbai to generate buzz around the film.

    Speaking on the initiative, George John, Director – Marketing (Theatrical), Warner Bros. Discovery said: “We are delighted to announce the creation of a larger-than-life painted Mural featuring the iconic characters Godzilla & Kong.   • Viacom18 shows its intent with Warner Bros. Discovery agreement

    The joint announcement by Warner Bros. Discovery and Viacom18 on Thursday is being looked at it with much interest in M&E circles. This surely more than a new multi-year agreement, making JioCinema India’s new streaming home of HBO, Max Original and Warner Bros. content from next month. It’s the beginning of an aggressive Viacom18 with JioCinema in tow. Clearly, the combination of Jio, Uday Shankar/Jamesh Murdoch and Paramount Global is now beginning to exert itself.

     

    The partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, includes exclusive content rights across digital and linear.  The deal includes current and future seasons of HBO’s globally acclaimed series such as House of The Dragon, The Last of Us, Succession and The White Lotus, and returning seasons of True Detective: Night Country, Euphoria, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty and Perry Mason. Also featured as part of the agreement are highly anticipated HBO Original series including The Idol, White House Plumbers, The Sympathizer and The Regime. In addition, HBO’s esteemed series and documentaries, including Game of Thrones, Sex & The City, Big Little Lies, Chernobyl and Veep, will be available for users.

  • Warner Bros. Discovery unveils new top deck

    Warner Bros. Discovery has unveiled its new leadership team for South Asia. The business is led locally by Arjun Nohwar, General Manager – South Asia and includes brands such as Discovery, HGTV, Eurosport, Cartoon Network, POGO, Discovery Kids, DC, and the discovery+ streaming service.

     

    Meanwhile the following appointments are confirmed for South Asia:

    Ruchir Jain is Head of Distribution & Eurosport and heads up the integrated network distribution function. Jain led the finance team at Discovery Network from 2018 to 2021, and then distribution. He continues to lead the Eurosport channel.

     

    Tanaz Mehta is Head of Ad Sales, tasked with growing revenues across all networks in South Asia. Mehta is a seasoned sales leader with a deep expertise and nuanced understanding of the market.

     

    Uttam Pal Singh is Head of Kids Cluster and tasked with developing a compelling content strategy for growth. In his previous capacity at Discovery Kids, Singh led the team behind successful original IPs, including Little Singham and Fukrey Boyzzz. The combined Kids portfolio now includes Cartoon Network and POGO, in addition to Discovery Kids.

     

    Sai Abhishek is Head of Factual & Lifestyle Cluster and will be responsible for delivering growth and profitability across the genre. Abhishek comes with a strong background of leading original productions, programming, and acquisitions.

     

    Said Nohwar: “With this exceptional new-look team, Warner Bros. Discovery is well-positioned to achieve our ambition of being the leading and most dynamic media company in the region. All our leaders are looking forward to working closely together across divisions as one united team.”

     

    Nohwar also paid tribute to two outgoing executives who will be exiting the organisation. Rohit Khetarpal will be leaving the company after 14 years, having been a key member of the legacy WarnerMedia and Turner network distribution team. Abhishek Dutta also departs, having led the legacy WarnerMedia Kids team in South Asia, including programming strategy, acquisitions and original production.

     

    Other lines of business, shared services and corporate functions that support the wider region will be announced at a later date.

     

  • Sony Pix inks movie content deal with Warner Bros

    Sony Pix has signed a content licensing deal with Warner Bros International Television Distribution. The movie content deal will strengthen the channel’s library by bringing films like Harry Porter, Matrix, Batman Vs Superman, Dunkirk, Wonder Woman, Hangover Series, Conjuring Universe, Final Destination series, Oceans Series, Shawshank Redemption, and many more, for its viewers.

     

    Said Tushar Shah, EVP and Business Head, English Cluster, Sony Pictures Networks India: “SPN’s English Cluster aims to bring the best international content for its viewers. With the new Warner Bros. deal, Sony PIX – the destination for Hollywood blockbusters and premieres – will now also become the destination for biggest franchises in the genre. We will continue to invest in content that will delight our viewers.”

     

    Added Jeffrey Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution: “We are pleased to have completed this deal with Sony PIX enabling Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) to bring our films to television viewers in India.  We are confident that the diverse selection of films will offer something different for fans of all genres.”

     

     

  • Amazon Prime signs multi-year deal with Warner Bros

    Hours before Apple announced an arrangement with Amazon Prime, the digital consumer giant announced an exclusive long-term content deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution which brings the biggest, latest and most popular movies and TV shows from the Warner Bros. repertoire to Amazon Prime members in India.  Amazon Prime  Video will now be the exclusive subscription screening home to some of the latest movies like Sully, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, The Conjuring 2, Lights Out along with evergreen titles like Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow, Annabelle, Into the Storm to name a few. Apart from the movie library, hundreds of popular hit TV shows like Lethal Weapon, Supernatural, Blindspot, The Last Ship, 2 Broke Girls, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and more are also available at the same time as their US premiere to Prime members.  The deal also includes the hit comedy, Two and a Half Men, which concluded its 12-season run in 2015.

  • Former Dish TV COO Salil Kapoor joins HOOQ as MD

    HOOQ, Asia’s first premium video-on-demand service, has announced the appointment of Salil Kapoor, former COO at Dish TV India Ltd, as Managing Director of its India operations. As country manager, Kapoor will push the company’s goals of getting India HOOQd via the video-on-demand service landscape in India.

     

    HOOQ, a joint venture by Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros, claims delivery of over 30,000 hours of Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters along with popular regional and local programmes.

     

    Commenting on his new role, Kapoor said: “It is an exciting opportunity for me to be associated with HOOQ and lead its India operations since this is clearly the future of entertainment. A developing country with an interesting demographic mix, India offers several opportunities for technologies like Cable, DTH and on demand services like HOOQ to co-exist. With growing interest in enjoying an uninterrupted viewing experience and internet penetration on the upswing, more and more time stressed viewers prefer enjoying their daily dose of entertainment at their convenience.The freedom of enjoying premium content from anywhere and at any time clubbed with better internet connectivity and growing smartphone penetration will drive the subscriber growth for HOOQ.     Prior to HOOQ, Kapoor was Chief Operating Officer at Dish TV for over seven years and has also been associated with LG (as CMO),  Microsoft and Samsung.

     

  • The Dark Knight Rises in India with Bournville

    As the countdown to Christopher Nolan’s epic conclusion of the Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, kicks off around the world, Cadbury Bournville has partnered with Warner Bros to celebrate the release of the most anticipated Hollywood blockbuster of 2012.

     

    Cadbury Bournville will pull out all stops for the cinema release of The Dark Knight Rises (TDKR) in India with one of their biggest and innovative integrated marketing campaign yet.

     

    The Cadbury Bournville-TDKR integration comes to life with special brand packaging, in-store branding, on-ground activities and television and cinema campaigns. The campaign has been designed and created, going through great lengths to ensure engagement across all touch points to reach out to dedicated fans of the movie franchise as well as Bournville loyalists.

     

    However, the biggest component will be Bournville’s digital campaign, especially created for the TDKR association. The digital campaign has been brought to life with a large format online contest that will add to the wave of anticipation and excitement with the legion of movie buffs and dark chocolate aficionados.

     

    The Dark Knight has already taken centrestage on Cadbury Bournville’s Facebook page, which has over 1.5 million fans, with contests and gave 100 lucky fans prizes through an innovative pixel contest.

     

    The digital campaign also features a specially created 30-second ‘digital commercial’ viewed exclusively on Cadbury Bournville’s official YouTube channel. The video is interactive in nature as daily trivia around the Batman franchise will be posted on it with exciting prizes for lucky winners. Those with the right answers will win passes to the pre-screenings of TDKR which will be organized in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai.

    The special TDKR packs of Bournville will run an online contest for customers where one lucky winner will stand a chance to win a free trip for two to Warner Bros Movie World in Australia. The contest will be available on all packs of Bournville.

     

    The association will be promoted in-stores through heavy trade activations in traditional and modern trade throughout the month of July. The campaign will continue to be driven through direct marketing and promotional activity.
