  • Stop cribbing about infra, Mumbaikars. Go out and vote!

As many as 10 municipal corporations go to vote in Maharashtra today. These include the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (or BMC), Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Nashik Municipal Corporation, Solapur Municipal Corporation, Akola Municipal Corporation, Amravati Municipal Corporation and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). No, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) elections aren’t being held concurrently.

Given that a large number of our readers are from Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and PCMC, here’s an earnest request: Please go out and vote. Vote you must, so what if it’s for a candidate you don’t know.

Agreed Mumbai gets a raw deal on attention to civic infrastructure. While the city contributes considerably in the form of taxes, the facilities that we see here suck.

While Delhi is the national capital and deserves all the pampering, so what if the Central powers don’t spend too much attention on our city. If we get a corporation that works, corporators who care, we can match the pace of development that any large urban centre deserves.

It’s not that Mumbai doesn’t have infra. Our public transport systems are possibly the best in the country. Our city is one of the safest. Law and order is under control and it’s a great place to live in.

Now it’s in our hands to ensure that we get a local government that can give us the city that we deserve.

Let’s go to the polling booths and vote. Find out which polling booth you need to go to. So what if you don’t know who the candidate is. You may not care much for the municipal corporation elections but remember a good candidate and party in power can transform our city. Good road, cleanliness and hygiene, focus on public transport and green spaces, planned development… the list can go on and on.

Malls, multiplexes and hotels are good to have but let’s not fool ourselves that they are symbols of a 22nd Century India . We need: broad, pothole-free roads, to ensure that new structures have ample space for parking and security checks, that there is no unauthorised parking, two-three-lane parking must stop… etc etc.

All of this is possible only if we have responsible elected members in the corporation. So please do vote!

  • Oh, Dilliwallon! Please go out and vote!!!

It’s Voting Day in Delhi tomorrow. Saturday, February 7.

Being a Saturday, it’s a holiday for many already, but for those who are getting an extra day’s ‘chhutti’, please do go out and vote. Yes, the weather is just right to take weekend off beyond the dry zone, but please do that only after you’ve cast your vote. Puhleez.

A year-odd of no CM hasn’t meant that the city has gone to the dogs, but a good admin and a better city can only happen if there’s a full-time administrator in the form of a Chief Minister.

MxMIndia urges all its readers in Delhi to wake up early and go to your polling booths to vote. Your vote is vital. The capital needs a stable government. If you want the good days to happen, the party at the helm must have a clear mandate.

Enough gyaan. Please do go out and cast your vote.

It’s voting day today for the elections of the Maharashtra and Haryana state Assemblies (288 constituencies in Maharashtra and 90 in Haryana). And some bypolls.

It’s a holiday for many, but there are some offices which are working having offered concessions to employees in terms of timings.

While we have an edition today, our offices are shut allowing the staff working out of the office to be able to vote.

Being a small team, it’s more easily done. But if you can, please do incentivise or put an element of fun. Go, effect a tie-up with the neighbourhood nightspot for a glass of draught after the dry spell ends this evening.

Do whatever, but vote one must. And ensure that people around you vote too. Try and do your bit to help people vote. If you can assist and dropping people off to the voting booth from your housing complex, do that. Most voting stations do not allow for cars to be parked in the vicinity. And walking in the October heat can be painful.

We keep cribbing about our infrastructure. About the corruption. About the kind of politicians who run the state. While we still don’t have too much of a choice in the matter of who’s contesting in our constituencies, we can always vote them to power. Or reject them.

If you don’t know the contestants in your area, find out more about them. Or vote the political party of your choice.

Participating in the polling process is a good way to help make our respective cities and towns better places to live in. And that’s reason #1 to 100… to infinity for voting. There’s no right to recall elected candidates, but the fact that there have been people in other parts of the world (and even here in India) taking on the rulers via mass protests and social media has shown us that there is a way out of the mess.

  • Vote karo, Vote kara, Vote maadi!

It’s the biggest Voting Day in General Elections 2014. As many as 121 constituencies go out to vote in the fifth of the nine-phase Lok Sabhha election.

Delhi and the region (Gurgaon and Noida) have voted and Mumbai is next week (April 24), but some key cities are voting today: Bengaluru and Pune, for instance.

It’s a holiday in most offices in places where there’s polling. In fact it’s mandatory to be shut, except of course in those set-ups where it’s vital for staff to come in (like newsmedia offices, for instance). But even there, employees need to be given adequate time to be able to go out and vote.

By the time you read this, a good time of the voting day would’ve elapsed. So if you haven’t gone out and voted, please do so now. Puhleez!

Do whatever, but vote you must. We keep cribbing about how the country is going to the dogs. Inefficiencies, corruption, awful law and order,,,   Participating in the polling process is a good way to show the finger to a leader you don’t trust and help elect someone you think can make a difference to your life as well as that of the rest of the country.

Enough gyaan. Please do go out and cast your vote. Also, if you meet someone who is feeling too lazy to do that, persuade him or her.

As they say in Kannada: Vote Maadi. Or in Marathi: Vote Kara! Vote Karo… Vote you Must!

It’s Voting Day in New Delhi NCR and several other constituencies. 91 of them! The third and exceedingly vital phase of voting happens today (April 10).

MxMIndia is live today since we are headquartered in Mumbai where polling is on April 24. We realise we should’ve been shut given that we would prefer our readers in the voting regions go out and vote than read us.

It’s Wednesday, December 4, 2013, and it’s Voting Day in Delhi for 70 Assembly seats (and 40 Assembly seats in Mizoram).

Although there have been announcements of a paid leave in Delhi, given that a large number people – especially in the media – flock to Gurgaon and Noida where there are no elections, it’s business as usual.

There have been concessions given on coming in a few hours late allowing people to vote. We think it’s important to not just give these concessions but also some incentives. Show the indelible ink and get a scoop of ice cream or beer. Or some such.

Do whatever, but vote one must. We keep cribbing about how the corruption. The rising prices. The general decay.

Participating in the polling process is a good way to help make our country a better place to live in. So, go out and cast your vote.

And await the exit poll results from this evening and the final counting on Sunday, December 8.
