  • Rajat Kakar appointed MD of PPL India

    Rajat Kakar has been appointed Managing Director of Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) India, with effect from January 1, 2018. The appointment was announced recently by Shridhar Subramaniam, Chairman of the Indian Music Industry.

     

    Kakar will assume leadership responsibility for the functioning of PPL India, which is headquartered in Mumbai. PPL has been operating for over 70 years and is platform for collective licensing for more than 250 music labels.

     

    Said Kakar: “I am excited to lead PPL into an exciting new phase in its life cycle. The new Copyright Act coupled with clear demarcation of rights along with tools and technology available to monitor and monetise the usage of content offers immense potential for growth. I look forward to working with stakeholders and users alike to create an environment of respect for intellectual property and transparent pricing policies by imbibing best practices from across the globe.”

     

     

  • Rajat Kakar elevated as MD, India at Sony DADC

    After successfully launching Home Entertainment Services in India, Rajat Kakar has now been elevated as the Managing Director of Sony DADC India. He will be reporting to Dietmar Tanzer, President – Sony DADC International.

     

    In his new role as the Managing Director of Sony DADC India, he will oversee the Sony DADC Manufacturing and Distribution unit operations in addition to the licensee business. Core to his new responsibilities, Rajat will provide strategic guidance to the company’s existing portfolio and expand the current verticals while exploring growth opportunities for the company in India.

     

    Rajat joined the company in 2012 as the Business Head for its licensee business. Under his leadership, the home entertainment business portfolio expanded in a very short span of time, making it the biggest Entertainment Licensing and Distribution entity in India. Under his guidance ‘Home Entertainment Services by Sony DADC’ entered into exclusive Home Video marketing & distribution for major Hollywood studios like Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE), Warner Home Video (WHV), Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE) and National Geographic in India.  Rajat also expanded the Music portfolio encompassing Sony Music, Warner Music, Zee Music, Times Music & Saregama content in the Music Vertical for exploitation across all physical formats.
