  • It’s Bihar Calling for Bhaskar!

    By A Correspondent

The print media has had strong patrons over the years. But in more recent times, where digital has taken rapid strides globally and in India too, while the number of people propagating the benefits of the media hasn’t diminished, if there’s one person who not only aggressively champions the cause of print but also asks the trade media to promote it, it’s Girish Agarwaal, promoter and director of the Dainik Bhaskar group.

Agarwaal spoke of the rapid growth of print despite naysayers, quoting his own newspaper’s example which he says is indeed a “very big deal”.

The rise in newsprint prices which saw at least one newspaper group declaring that it’s going to cut its print run to cut costs is not something that Agarwaal too bothered about. “It’s cyclical, and will come down in a few quarters,” he told mediapersons.

On Tuesday, Agarwaal and team had convened a presser to announce the rapid strides his paper had seen in Bihar in just a year of launch. It commissioned Hansa Research, the agency which would undertake the IRS research until it was upstaged by Nielsen a few years back, to map the length and breadth of Bihar to conduct the study.

A sample of over 2000 people conducted the study, and the results show that Dainik Bhaskar is a close #2 in the state, ahead of Dainik Jagran and Prabhat Khabar. As per the study, DB is at #2 with an AIR of 9.11 lakh and Hindustan continues to lead at 9.98 lakh. But in Patna city, DB is #1 with AIR of 5.07 lakh

Interestingly, DB has attracted the highest number of women readers amongst its peers. Its number is 47 per cent, as against 44 per cent being the next best.

  • Dr Kalam is the guest ed @ Prabhat Khabar

    By A Correspondent

“If you only do what you know you can do – you never do very much.” That’s why Prabhat Khabar, the leading Hindi daily of eastern India, always seeks inspiration from personalities of eminence.

On June 15, Prabhat Khabar was honoured to have Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India as the guest editor.

When invited Dr. Kalam wanted to know, if Prabhat Khabar was owned by any political party or owed allegiance to any political group. After going through some of our issues he was convinced that Prabhat Khabar is an independent publication and attempts to raise issues of the ‘common man’ and be their voice to the government.

After this assurance, Dr. Kalam agreed to be the guest editor for the day. Articles like children bypassing a vital educative link of their childhood and being burdened with the worries of the adulthood and the loneliness of senior citizen were appreciated by Dr. Kalam.

He discussed various aspects of news and gave his valuable guidance to the resident editors across the editions. He showed keen interest in the various aspects of the news papers and gave his suggestions.

Dr. Kalam is the founder of PURA (Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) and he was glad to know about Prabhat Khabar’s rural newspaper – Panchayinama. He called it a big step towards rural development.

While leaving he gave his blessings to the Prabhat Khabar family for a bright future ahead. This is the first time Dr. Kalam had agreed to be a guest editor of any newspaper in Bihar, Jharkhand or West Bengal.

  • Prabhat Khabar launches rural tabloid Panchayatnama

    By A Correspondent

Mahatma Gandhi once said: “the soul ofIndialives in its villages”. In fact, he termed them ‘small republics’ and advocated for ‘a village-based political formation’ and the creation of Gram Swaraj. But in time, the essence of villages was lost in rapid urbanization.

Where once almost 70 per cent of population resided in villages which also were our biggest contributor in terms of agriculture and agro-based products, now seems to have gone far away somewhere.

In fact, now a day, even media, for commercial reasons or otherwise, don’t portray the real picture of villages. To bring development and growth to villages of Jharkhand, the leading Hindi daily Prabhat Khabar has launched its fortnightly tabloid ‘Panchayatnama’.

The newspapers was inaugurated by Union Rural Development, Shri Jairam Ramesh in the presence of Shri Primal Nathwani , MP Rajya Sabha , Shri Hemant Soren, Dy. CM, Jharkhand and Ex-Chief Minister Shri Babulal Marandi at ATI Ranchi.

The tabloid will cover and feature Panchayat-oriented news, information and issues such as empowerment to Panchayat people, monitoring and analyzing their development work, information about and reviewal of  government schemes for Panchayat, incorporation of better people in Panchayat for the post of Mukhiya and other Panchayat seats.

The 40 pages colour tabloid with cover price of Rs12 is first of its kind in Jharkhand and will be available in all the 4423 Panchayats in 24 districts.

The tabloid has promised to deliver news with credibility and already 15,000 copies have been booked. It’s a step to revive the identity of ruralIndiaand initiate development programs.

The newspaper targets rural readers like farmers, NGOs, Panchayat members, Gram Sabha, government departments in rural areas and Zilla Parishad.

From being a face in the billion-plus fellow Indians, Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 5 winner is a star. With reason. Hailing from a humble background, the man achieved what several others — with more privileged upbringing – could not. The Rs 5 crore jackpot.

So, Sushil Kumar ‘Motihari ka Moti’ (pearl of Motihari) was Guest Editor of the Muzzafarpur edition of Prabhat Kabhar on Monday. Mr Kumar was in the office as early as 6am and went on occupying the Guest Ed’s chair till 7pm. He carefully went through the day’s news reports and also got a feel of the newspaper’s operations.

When Mr Kumar charmed the newspaper’s staff,  that he had turned into a star was evident from the dignitaries who visited the newsroom for an audience. Also, around 14,000 phone calls were made to the allocated numbers, Mr K K Goenka, Managing Director of Neutral Publishing House (publishers of the Ranchi-based Prabhat Khabar) told MxMIndia.
