  • Meridian is now Soho Square

    By A Correspondent

Meridian Communication has been merged with Soho Square, a growing international network present in Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. The network will deliver cross-disciplinary work spanning a full spectrum of marketing communications including brand development, brand identity, strategic planning and integrated creative solutions in India.

Soho Square currently has three boutique agencies operating independently in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. Given the complex nature of the Indian market and its geography, the Soho Square approach in India will be to establish itself as a standalone in each city rather than a nationally integrated network. The India plans attempt to have Soho Square in many more cities in the near future.

While the individual operations will share the same philosophy and principles as the international network, in India, for the purpose of business, the three city agencies will operate independent of each other.

Some of Soho Square Mumbai’s clients include ITC’s personal care products, Perfetti’s Stop Not, Piaggio’s Vespa, Bisleri, Pidilite’s Raincoat, Hungama.com, Oberoi Realty, Nutrela Soya, H&R Johnson and Hockey India. In Delhi, the client list reads Honda Cars India Ltd. (formerly Honda Siel Cars India Ltd.), Godfrey Phillips India Ltd., HTC Ltd, HDFC Ltd and Voltas Ltd. And in Bangalore, the clients of Soho Square include Himalaya Healthcare’s Consumer Products Division (Purifying Neem Face Wash, Clarifying Fairness Face Wash, Toothpastes, Face packs, Shampoos), Himalaya Asia Pac, The Bengaluru International Airport, GKB Opticals, iGate etc.

The team in Mumbai comprises Samrat Bedi – Head of Office, Soho Square Mumbai, Anuraag Khandelwal & Satish deSa, Executive Creative Directors & Creative Heads, Mohit Ahuja – VP, Account Management and Shashank Lanjekar – Sr. VP, Planning. In Bangalore, Soho Square’s core team comprises Shenaz Bapooji – Head of Office, Soho Square Bangalore and C Ravikumar & Manoj Jacob – Creative Directors.

  • Stop Not launches new campaign

    By A Correspondent

Perfetti Van Melle India (PVMI), the market leader in sugar confectionery well-known for its clutter-breaking advertising is launching a fresh campaign for its latest offering in the snacks category Stop Not Disks. The new television commercial is woven around the product”s attribute of being super crunchy that in turn leads to humorous incidents. The commercial is slated to go on-air from the December 17 across all major channels.

Commenting on the new campaign, Ramesh Jayaraman, MD, Perfetti Van Melle India, said, “The core idea of the new Stop Not campaign is derived from the brand”s attribute of being crunchy. The “Crunch” is so loud that it disrupts events all around with unexpected results. The TVC is high on enjoyment and humor, and we are sure it will catch on with the youth.”

The campaign will be launched in two executions, portraying different situations and will carry the same message “Ekdum Bajedar”. The first situation features a family spending a lazy Sunday afternoon together at a park. The story changes track when a boy in the same park bites into his Stop Not Disks and the loud crunch distracts the father, who misses catching his son as he jumps off a tree. The second situation is a diving contest where the diver, who has a chance to win gold, completely misses his dive due to the loud crunch of Stop Not Disks.

  • Hockey India wins for Meridian, OgilvyOne

    By A Correspondent

Meridian Communication Mumbai has added the Hockey India League to its existing client portfolio, following a multi-agency pitch in Delhi a couple of months ago.

Samrat Bedi, Head of Office, Meridian Communication, said, “Giving hockey its rightful place in India is something that we all talk about. The League is a superb opportunity for us to be a part of the team that will re-position the game in a manner that appeals to newer and larger audiences.”

Hockey India Secretary-General and Hockey India League Chairman Dr. Narinder Batra said, “Meridian & Ogilvy One’s passion came through during the pitch. The league is going to showcase the world’s best talent and boundless energy. Meridian and Ogilvy One brought such energy to the table and we are happy to choose it as our communication partner.”

Kunal Jeswani, President, OgilvyOne Worldwide, India said, “It is very exciting to have the opportunity to launch the Hockey India League and rekindle the country’s passion for the sport. It is a great challenge and we look forward to it.”

Shashank Lanjekar, VP Planning, Meridian Communication, said, “Sport in India is uni-dimensional and that’s just so unfortunate. It’s easy to blame and complain about the lack of other sports facilities but it’s not easy to initiate a change. And that’s exactly what Hockey India has done. A spark that we hope slowly takes the shape of a flame and soon rages into a forest fire like the IPL. We hope to make this ambition our communication effort as well.”

  • Meridian’s creative leadership changes

    By A Correspondent

Meridian Communication, a group company of WPP, the world’s largest conglomerate of marketing communications services, has entrusted the creative mantle of its Mumbai office to Ogilvy’s Anuraag Khandelwal and Satish deSa. Both have been promoted to the rank of Executive Creative Directors and will assume this new responsibility with effect from June 1. Mr Khandelwal and Mr deSa boast a collective wealth of 26 years industry experience that will reinforce Meridian’s creative output. A major part of their career has been spent forging a fantastic partnership at Ogilvy, Mumbai. During their association here, they have created stellar campaigns for big brands like TATA Motors, IPL, Cadbury, Tata Sky, Aegon Religare Life Insurance, Unilever’s Beverages, Oberoi Realty and Hutch, to name just a few.

Announcing the appointment, Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy Group, South Asia, said: “Meridian has found itself two young men who are very ambitious and full of exciting ideas. I have asked them to make Meridian a place that gives their friends at Ogilvy sleepless nights. I’m sure it will be healthy competition and result in some great advertising on both sides of the family.”

“When we were asked to head Meridian, Mumbai, I thought – here is another opportunity to challenge ourselves. Because each time we’ve done that, we’ve been encouraged by the outcome. We’re sure this time won’t be any different. Can’t wait to get started,” said Mr Khandelwal

“We believe that our appetite for constantly reinventing ourselves, for setting new standards is what will differentiate Meridian in the near future,” Mr deSa added.

On this infusion of young blood, Samrat Bedi, Head of Office, Meridian, Mumbai said: “The passion Anuraag and Satish have for new-age work is remarkable. Their recent IPL ‘Carnival’ campaign attests to that. And that’s exactly the kind of fresh creative energy that Meridian needs today.”
