  • Starcom MediaVest Group India is Hanley’s King-dom

    Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) has announced the appointment of Hanley King as Chairman, SMG India. Mr King will report to John Sheehy, President, Global Operations and will be based in SMG’s Mumbai office.  As Chairman, SMG India, he will be focused on key client relationships, new business and commercial operations for the agency. Malli CR, CEO SMG India and Vishal Sampat, CEO SMG Convonix will report to Mr King and will continue to lead daily operations for their respective organizations.

     

    “Hanley is a consummate professional with a proven track record of delivering results across our globally networked clients,” said Mr Sheehy. “Our recent acquisition of Convonix and our robust digital and analytics practice prove that our operations in India are among our most future-focused.  I look to Hanley to work hand in hand with Malli and Vishal to continue to build upon our momentum in India.”

     

    Mr King was most recently SMG Global Client Lead for APAC, based in Singapore. In this role he managed multifaceted SMG client teams for Samsung, Mars Wrigley, Kellogg’s, Novartis and Bank of America and others across the APAC region. Prior to joining SMG, Mr King was CEE President for Universal McCann, where he was responsible for 22 markets across the Central European region with 500 plus staff and billings of close to 1 billion USD. In his career Hanley has worked on many global accounts in either Asia, Europe or New Zealand spanning FMCG, Auto, Financial, Breweries and Telcos.

Founded in 2003, Convonix today employs more than 400 digital marketing specialists, making it the largest digital agency in India, serving such clients domestically as well as internationally as Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, Budweiser, Taj Hotels, DBS, Mahindra Holidays, Tata Global Beverages among others.

     

  • Senior management changes at SMG Delhi

    Starcom MediaVest Group has announced that three senior executives, Tarun Nigam, Sulina Menon and Sriram Sharma, have been given new roles as part of the restructuring.

     

    Tarun Nigam, ED Starcom North, is moving to a role with VivaKi Exchange by Januray 2013. In the past 6 years with the organisation, Tarun has handled critical roles like Delhi head and National Director Business Impact for SMG India. He is currently in the process of transitioning from the SMG role to a full time role with the group outfit VivaKi. In his new role, Tarun will report to VivaKi Exchange CEO Mona Jain.

     

    Sulina Menon, Executive Director and Head of Team Samsung and Dabur will be taking charge of Tarun’s client portfolio in Delhi, in addition to overseeing the Dabur account.  Sulina has been instrumental in scaling up Starcom’s services on Samsung over the past couple of years. This year the agency won numerous awards for outstanding work on Samsung.

     

    Sriram Sharma, VP Starcom South is moving to Delhi to Head Team Samsung.  Sriram has played a key role in developing Starcom Bangalore and Chennai. There would be a 3 month overlap between Sulina and Sriram on Samsung before they take independent charge of their roles in Januray 2013. In their new roles both Sulina and Sriram will report to SMG India CEO Malli CR.

  • Radio Mirchi appoints Starcom as media partner

    Starcom Worldwide has bagged the media mandate of leading radio network Radio Mirchi. The account will be handled from Starcom’s Mumbai office. It was previously with Madison. The agency is reported to started work on the new business.

     

    The win adds to a series of new business wins at Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) since the middle of last year, among which are Aircel, Dabur, Axis Bank, Zee Learning, Supermax, Sterling Holidays etc. SMG has also been aggressively strengthening their media product in India. The agency recently launched its proprietary Web+TV optimiser, billed as the first of its kind in the market.

     

    Confirming the news, G G Jayanta, National Head of Marketing, Radio Mirchi said: “we are pleased to appoint Starcom since we needed a partner who is future focussed and can help us navigate the new media landscape. Their in-house research and tools are very impressive and their media product and philosophy are pretty solid. We look forward to a long and rewarding association with Team Starcom”.
