  • Lionsgate, Abundantia & Efar Films join forces

    Lionsgate, Efar Films and Abundantia Entertainment have come together to bring two movies. The first is an action – comedy motion picture, the other film is a romantic comedy. Scripting is underway for both projects.

  • MX Player inks partnership with Lionsgate

    Video on Demand platform MX Player has entered into a partnership with Lionsgate OTT service provider to bring premium Hollywood movies, including award-winning titles across genres.

     

    Through this association, MX Player consumers in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives will now have access to 50+ Hollywood blockbuster films dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in a year.

     

    Speaking on the association, Mansi Shrivastav, Senior Vice President – Content Acquisitions & Alliances, MX Player said: “At MX Player, we are invested in our consumers.  As the second largest entertainment ecosystem across the globe, we have continually and consistently brought diverse content to the platform across genres, formats and languages.     OTT player Lionsgate Play has launched a new campaign “LoveMoreBrowseLess” that will witness a series of videos and posts. The app has roped in actor Ananya Panday to amplify the campaign.

  • IAMAI’s ‘Universal Self-Regulation Code’ onboards SonyLIV & Lionsgate

    The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has announced SonyLIV and Lionsgate as the latest amngst the leading Online Curated Content Providers (OCCPs) in India to sign the Universal Self-Regulation Code. The code has garnered support from the industry and has onboarded 15 OCCPs like Zee5, Viacom18, Disney Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, MX Player, Jio Cinema, Eros Now, Alt Balaji, Arre, HoiChoi, Hungama, Shemaroo, Discovery Plus and Flickstree.

     

    Said Tarun Katial, Chair, Digital Entertainment Committee, IAMAI: “I am overwhelmed with the support received on the code and delighted to welcome SonyLIV and Lionsgate as the 16th and 17th leading OCC providers in India to sign the ‘Universal Self-Regulation Code’. We already have India’s leading OTT providers as the signatories and expect more players to join the initiative in the coming weeks.”

     

    Added Ashok Nambissan, General Counsel, Sony Pictures Networks India: “We are delighted to join the league of signatories of the Universal Self-Regulation Code. We look to working closely with the IAMAI and other OTT players to get broader acceptance for the Code as well as the Government’s support for the industry’s efforts at self-regulation.”

     

    The Code is effective from August 15, 2020 and allows OCCPs to comply with all the guidelines in a time-bound manner. Each signatory to the code has agreed to appoint an external advisor as part of the grievance redressal mechanism within 60 days from the launch of the code – that September 4, 2020.

     

     

  • Amazon Prime Video announces deal with Lionsgate

    Amazon and Lionsgate announced a long-term exclusive deal that will make Prime Video India the subscription streaming home for hundreds of Lionsgate’s top acclaimed films, television episodes and upcoming new releases. Blockbuster movies like La La Land, which has grossed over $370 million at the worldwide box office and won six Academy Awards, event films including Deepwater Horizon and The Divergent Series: Allegiant and upcoming 2017 releases Power Rangers, The Shack and others will also be exclusively available only to Prime members, and will not be available on satellite or pay Television.  Rohit Tiwari at Morris Street Advisors, which represents Lionsgate in India, negotiated and closed the ground-breaking deal.

  • Endemol, Lionsgate to co-produce ‘Warrior’ in Hindi

    Entertainment company Lionsgate and Endemol India have come together to co-produce the sports drama ‘Warrior’ in Hindi for the Indian subcontinent. Warrior, inspired by Lionsgate’s critically-acclaimed 2011 North American release of the same name, will be the first film jointly produced by the two companies in India.

     

    “Lionsgate is committed to identifying opportunities to produce and deliver motion pictures, television programming and other premium content to one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in the world,” said Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution Jim Packer. Lionsgate COO of International Distribution Andrew Kramer added, “Warrior is the kind of locally-produced property based on timeless themes that we expect to resonate with mainstream commercial audiences in India, and our partnership with Endemol’s Eyedentity Motion Pictures will bring valuable local expertise to our venture.”

    Inspired by the American film of the same name, Warrior tells the story of two estranged brothers and deals with their struggling relationship with each other and their father.  The film will be adapted for Indian audiences and re-written for Indian tastes. Its focus on contact sport will be integral to the storyline and will position Warrior as one of the few sports dramas made in India.
