  • iTV network extends solidarity on Covid-19

    To minimise the risk of an employee contracting the virus at the workplace, iTV Network has ensured equal detailing and planning to provide a work environment that is without risk to health and safety. It has unveiled the #StayAtHome and #GharParRahe initiatives is a gesture to thank all those men and women who are out there and contributing their bit in the fight against COVID-19.

     

    Said Kartikeya Sharma, Founder and Promoter of iTV Network: “It is a time, when the entire humanity must come together and take responsibility to do their part in controlling the spread of the disease.   • BARC shows it has b*l*s. Suspends measurement of India News, TV9 & V6 for 4 weeks

    In our April 1 ‘All Fool’s Day’ edition, we had carried a news report that BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta was going to be given Z-plus security given that he was threatened with crazy consequences.

     

    On Thursday, Dasgupta and the BARC bosses did the impossible: pulled the plug off three leading channels for four weeks. Yes, India News, TV9 and V6 will not be measured for four weeks due to “suspected malafide practices”. The channels have reportedly shown some hugely abnormal sparks in recent times, and there are some who say this would’ve happened without tampering of meters.

     

    A move as significant as this couldn’t have happened without the blessings of the BARC board which is populated by some of the biggest names in the business. BARC ownership lies 60% with broadcasters, 20% each with advertisers and advertising agencies. All three represented by IBF, ISA and AAAI.

     

    India News, which also runs NewsX is a formidable player now as are TV9 and V6 in Telugu. Expect some fireworks soon.

     

  • Varun Kohli elevated to CEO, India News

    iTV Network has elevated Varun Kohli to the Chief Executive Officer of India News, the national Hindi News channel of the network. Prior to this promotion, he was the Chief Operating Officer and Revenue Head at India News.

     

    In his new role, Varun will be responsible for leading the growth of the channel to next level. With a professional experience spanning over 21 years, Varun is a seasoned sales specialist and is credited with creating sustainable business development and management strategies that have increased top and bottom lines and enhanced efficiency in organisations.

     

    Commenting on the elevation, Kartikeya Sharma, Managing Director, iTV Network said, “We are delighted to elevate Varun as the CEO of India News. This elevation is in line with our commitment to growth. His skills and wide experience  will surely help India news reach the next level of growth.”

     

    Varun reports to Sanjay Dua, CEO, NewsX and Group CRO, iTV Network who said, “Over the course of time, Varun has played a more central role in the leadership of the company and with his elevation to CEO, India News; he will take on an even wider role. His strong track record of delivering growth and understanding of industry will help our continued success, moving forward.”

     

    Prior to joining ITV network, Varun was the head of sales for IBN7. His distinguished career includes leadership stints at Amar Ujala, Bennett, Coleman & Company Ltd., Deccan Chronicle, Dainik Bhaskar, Hindustan times and Indian express.

     

  • iTV Network seeks to ‘Connect Dots’ via new identity

    iTV Network has launched a mega brand campaign for the first time since its inception covering all its media brands namely NewsX, India News (National and its four regional channels) and its two print publications-The Sunday Guardian and Aaj Samaj. Starting March 16th, Monday iTV Network will also reveal a fresh look.

     

    Themed as ‘Connecting Dots…’, this new brand campaign will replicate the channel’s vision and editorial ethos. Every dot has a story. They are often the links to the bigger patterns of the universe and life. But these are often so tiny that we miss it literally and metaphorically. iTV Network will find the invisible and connect them with what is known and discover what is still a possibility.

     

    Speaking on the launch of this campaign, Kartikeya Sharma, Managing Director, iTV Network, said, “This is the first time we are launching a brand campaign for the entire network since its inception. This will take the network’s philosophy to the next level.”

     

    Savvy Dilip, Group CMO, iTV Network, said, “We are confident that this new look of the network complemented by this brand campaign will be highly appreciated and bring in a breath of fresh air to the brand. This campaign will be supported by a robust 360 degree marketing campaign.”

     

  • NewsX finds a benefactor in owners of India News & Aaj Samaj [updated]

    The ITV Group promoted by Kartikeya Sharma and its associates have acquired control of INX News Pvt. Ltd. which owns and operates the English news channel NewsX.

     

    Speaking on the occasion Mr. Sharma, Managing Director, ITV said, “This is a logical market expansion for us and enables us to enter the English news domain while strengthening our presence in the broadcast and digital media space.  NewsX has emerged as a quality news provider with great growth potential and making it part of our group’s network of seven regional news channels will bolster news gathering abilities and create multiple synergies all around.”

     

    In 2009, Mr. Vinay Chhajlani and Mr. Jehangir S. Pocha had joined hands to run NewsX.  In a joint statement Chhajlani and Pocha said, “We are happy to hand over the channel to the ITV Group and acknowledge the contribution of the team that has earned NewsX much recognition.  Being part of the ITV Group will help NewsX transcend the limitations of being a stand-alone channel and give new thrust to the channel’s editorial and commercial development.”

    Indi Media Network-owned English news channel, NewsX has finally found a suitor in ITV Media (Information TV). The details of the financial transaction are not known yet, though sources close to the development have confirmed the news to MxMIndia.

     

    ITV Media is the parent electronic media company which broadcasts 24/7 Hindi news channel, India News. ITV Media is part of the Piccadilly Group which also runs a print division that publishes a daily Hindi Newspaper, Aaj Samaj as well as a weekly Hindi magazine, India News. Headed by Mr Kartikeya Sharma, the company also has two regional news satellite channels, India News Haryana and India News Bihar. Mr Sharma is son of leading Haryana Congress leader Venod Sharma and the brother of Manu Sharma, a convict in the Jessical Lal murder case.

     

    NewsX which was earlier owned by INX News, was launched with much fanfare in March 2008. Later in January 2009, it was bought over by Indi Media Network, a partnership between the then Nai Dunia CEO Vinay Chhajlani and Businessworld Editor Jehangir S Pocha.

     

    Mr Pocha is currently CEO and Editor-in-chief of NewsX. An official announcement was made by Mr Pocha to the existing staff about the transaction in the afternoon and the new management is likely to speak to the team later today. MxMIndia learns that Mr Pocha reassured the team that he will continue as Editor-in-Chief. There were indicators that some resource sharing may happen with IndiaNews. A press communiqué is also to be issued.
