  • IAA presented EarthDay 2024 award

    EarthDay.org, the largest environmental movement in the world, presented IAA India with an awards for excellence in sustainability. The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) was presented the prestigious award for Best Organisation Spearheading Sustainable Development .

    Dr Karuna Singh Regional Director EarthDay.org said that IAA efforts in spreading the message of sustainability were truly laudable.

    Said Avinash Pandey, President IAA: “The IAA in India is committed to creating and amplifying the green agenda for some 15 years now. It began with the setting up of the widely acclaimed IAA Olive Crown Awards supported by AFAA. This annual award salutes excellence in communicating sustainability and also honors corporates and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the environment. The awards have grown in stature and size year on year.”

    Ramesh Narayan, who was earlier felicitated by EarthDay.org as the individual who has done the most for sustainability in the marcom space, accepted the award along with Avinash Pandey.

  • Avinash Pandey re-elected IAA India President

    At its Annual General Meeting held on September 27, 2023, Avinash Pandey, CEO, ABP Network, was unanimously re-elected President. Abhishek Karnani, President, Free Press Journal Group, will be Vice President, Nandini Dias, now an independent advisor will be Secretary and Jaideep Gandhi, Founder, Another Idea, will be Treasurer.

     

    The following five members were elected as voting members: Srinivasan K Swamy (Chairman & Managing Director, R K Swamy Ltd), MV Shreyams Kumar (Managing Director, Mathrubhumi Printing & Publishing Co Ltd)

    Said Avinash Pandey: “The India Chapter of the IAA is arguably the most active industry Association of its kind in the country. Its initiatives cover a wide spectrum of areas including saluting excellence in Marketing, Creativity and communicating Sustainability. In the year gone by, we also started Tech Pulse to cater to the growing digital market. The IAA has always maintained that what is good, is good for business and in that spirit it has converted its Voice of Change initiative into a nation-wide movement aimed at breaking the gender bias in advertising and the entertainment industry. In the year ahead we will also be spearheading two initiatives where we walk the talk that Communication is a Force for Good, and will also once again lead a group of CEOs to the US to study the latest developments in communication. I look forward to a very meaningful term ahead.”

     

  • IAA Olive Crown jury announced

    The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) announced its jury to judge entries received for the Olive Crown Awards this year.

    Said Avinash Pandey, President, IAA India: “The Olive Crown Awards are in their 14th year now and have been widely acclaimed. It is befitting that these meaningful awards are judged by a stellar jury including Bobby Pawar, Chairman, Chief Creative Officer, Havas Group India; K V Sridhar, Global Chief Creative Officer Nihilent Hypercollective, Nihilent Ltd; Garima Khandelwal, Chief Creative Officer , Mullen Lintas; Raj Nair, CEO & Chief Creative Officer, Madison BMB & Carlton D’Silva, Co-Founder, Musemakers & House of Awe.”

    Added Olive Crown Awards Chairperson Janak Sarda: “The fact that most of the distinguished jury members have judged these awards multiple times is a testimony to the value of the Olive Crowns. I am also very happy that we have received entries from all over India, as well as from Bangladesh, Nepal, Romania and Indonesia.”

     

    The awards presentation ceremony will be held in Mumbai on 5th.April 2023.

     

  • IAA to host gender sensitisation summit

    The International Advertising Association (IAA), India chapter is hosting a summit on Gender Sensitisation In Media on July 29 in Mumbai. The theme is Gender Portrayal across the creative spectrum from a 30-second TVC to a three-hour film.

     

    Said Megha Tata, President IAA India: “IAA has always brought forward initiatives that are meaningful and Gender sensitive, on and off screen and has also been the one who has always taken the lead on this issue in the industry. We felt that it is time for all of us to come together and be the voice of change. We want to address the dialogue of gender discrimination across the media spectrum and hope we will collectively bring much needed change in the system.”

     

    Added Nina Elavia Jaipuria, Chairperson, IAA Women Empowerment Committee & Head – Hindi and Kids TV Network, Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd: “Over the last decade, women have broken stereotypes in this industry both behind the scenes and on the screen. It’s time we tell more of those stories and break biases. Through this change summit, the IAA brings prominent industry voices to communicate, converge and be the Voices Of Change that we need to empower the narrative.”

     

    The summit shall see leading industry bodies such as ASCI, UNICEF, Tata Institute Of Social Sciences, Unstereotype Alliance and Akshara Centre as partners. Prominent voices like Poonam Mahajan, Vidya Balan, Deepika Warrier, Monika Shergill, Anupama Chopra, Santosh Desai, Nandita Das, Ranveer Brar, Tista Sen, Anuradha Sengupta and others will be in attendance.

     

  • IAA Leadership Awards presented

    N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons was honoured as the IAA Business Leader of the Year. When asked about the formula to success, Chandrasekaran said: “Running business in general is like a marathon and running Tata Group Business is like an ultra-marathon. These businesses have a lot of history and legacy so I don’t think there is a magic sauce. If requires a lot of team work, the right people, focus, lot of hard work and some luck. So, all of this plays a part, hardwork plus luck makes the magic sauce. He added that the biggest strength for the Tata group is its ethos and values which is deeply ingrained in the people”.

     

    When asked about tips and advice on time management to be more efficient by actor Ranveer Singh, Chandrasekaran said his mantra is ‘tension nahi leneka, gran nahi deneka’. We got to see a lighter side of Chandrasekaran during the discussion.

     

     

     

    Actor Ranveer Singh received the IAA Brand Endorser of the Year. Ranveer as we all know is powerhouse of energy and he made all smile with this eloquent talk.

     

     

    The IAA Force for Good was received by Sonu Sood, an individual who has gone beyond and helped those in need across the country particularly during the pandemic.

     

     

    Said Megha Tata President, IAA India: “When we talk about the year that was, it was such a silver lining to the dark clouds, that we all witnessed in 2020. A year of facing challenges though, these ones maybe a little more complex than before. Last year has also been a year of recovery for business and while the market is slowly coming around, it is these leaders who have led people and organisations towards growth and success. So this evening is dedicated to all you leaders who have gone beyond the pressure of time and opportunity lost during the pandemic and have shown great resilience and adaptability to the new way of doing business.”

     

     

    Added Nandini Dias, Co- Chair- IAA Leadership Awards: ‘Across the 15 categories that will be awarded today, we assessed over 200 companies. a shortlist of 10 companies per category were picked out. Besides considering aspects like change in growth, advertising to sales ratio, market share, profitability etc. This year our jurors also started considering the ESG rating. Unlike any other award, IAA doesn’t share any entry fee for the participation, they aren’t even aware that a body is doing such meticulous study, which makes the award way more prestigious.’

     

     

    IAA India inducted Shashi Sinha into the IAA Hall of Fame. Sinha mentioned Dr V Kurein’s role as a mentor in his advertising career. He also added that “when Anil Kapoor joined the organisation he changed the face of the organisation we worked for, he taught me everything, gave me courage of conviction but more importantly the concept of ‘biradri’, that you must do work for your organisation but also for your ecosystem.

     

     

    The IAA Leadership Awards felicitated Avinash Pandey with the IAA Media Person of the Year award. The IAA Media Game Changer of the Year award was presented to Punit Goenka; IAA Media Agency Leader of the Year to Tanmay Mohanty; IAA Creative Agency Leader of the Year to P G Aditiya and IAA TV Anchor of the Year to Zakka Jacob amongst others.

  • IAA appeals to the industry for Covid sensitivity

    The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) is appealing to all segments of the industry to take a deep breath in this hour of crisis. The campaign was created by the Madison BMB team of Rohan Joseph CD Copy, Vallabh Yeolekar CD Art, Raj Nair, CEO and CCO.

    Said Megha Tata, President IAA India and Managing Director – South Asia Discovery Communications India: “Yes, we are passing through an unprecedented crisis. There is pain and grief all around us. But as they say, extraordinary times need extraordinary responses. Corporates have responded with alacrity and fortitude to the call of the nation. Money and material is being raised to help those in need. Communication is being used, and will be used, to strike a chord of positivity. And this time around, as a responsible industry Association with a unique mix of members including leaders from the world of marketing advertising and the media, we are appealing to all stakeholders in our industry to deal with one another with a degree of sensitivity, understanding, empathy and kindness. It’s as simple as that. And as important. I thank Raj Nair and his team at Madison BMB for immediately responding to our appeal to prepare a communication campaign that will convey this message to our community.

  • 11th IAA Olive Crown Awards postponed

    The revised Maharashtra government regulations on events have led to the postponement of IAA India’s Olive Crown Awards.

    Said Neeraj Roy, Chairperson of the Olive Crown Awards Committee and a Past President of the IA: “We have been monitoring the rising cases of Covid-19 in our state very closely, which is why we had taken a decision nearly 4 weeks ago to hold the awards with no more than 50 people in attendance and also ensure all safety of our guest and enforce strict social distancing norms. Whilst we are keen to celebrate the success and creative work in a difficult and challenging year like 2020 towards sustainability and a greener planet, nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our members, our invited guests, winners and indeed all stakeholders associated with the IAA Olive Crown Awards.  Late last evening, the government of Maharashtra has issued an order, dated the 15th of March, 2021, stating that “No Social/Political/Religious gatherings to be allowed.  Respectfully we adhere to the guidelines issued by our government and in light of the same, we have taken the decision to postpone the 11th edition of the IAA Olive Crown Awards, which was scheduled to be held on the 19th of March, 2021 at the ITC Maratha Hotel in Sahar, Mumbai.”

    Added Megha Tata, President IAA, “The Olive Crown Awards ceremony are a big draw, more so since the entire process is run as a cause. We were happy that despite the extraordinary circumstances that prevailed last year, the entries, and more importantly the quality of the entries was encouraging. We will wait for the current situation to improve and then announce the winners at an appropriate event.”

     

     

  • Return of ground-level event in A&M: IAA Retrospect and Prospects in Delhi

    After a little less than a year, the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) is hosting its annual Retrospect and Prospects programme in New Delhi on January 21. This will be its first physical event after lockdown.

    Megha Tata, Managing Director – South Asia, Discovery Communications India was unanimously elected President of the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) at its AGM held in Mumbai today (Sept 28) in Mumbai.

    Speaking on her new role as the President of IAA, Tata sai:, “It is an honour and a privilege to be leading the India Chapter of IAA.  The legacy of past presidents, the great work they have done, will be continued as I endeavour to strengthen the India chapter and help build a strong ecosystem for the common good of the industry.  The strong representation of women in marcom is a welcome change and am sure will lead to more meaningful work in the coming year.”

    Speaking at the occasion, Immediate Past President Punit Goenka added: “It was an absolute pleasure for me to lead the entire team of IAA, India Chapter during my tenure as the President of this prestigious association. I attribute the success and milestones achieved over the last 2 years to each and every member of the team. The association is blessed with dedicated professionals who are focused towards bringing a positive change across the industry. I am very glad to note that the mantle is now handed over to Ms. Megha Tata. Her able leadership and experience will add immense value to the association and I wish her and the entire team all the very best. As a proud member of IAA, I will continue to contribute my best, in order to enable the association to achieve its set goals for the industry at large.”

Secretary, Abhishek Karnani, Director-The Free Press Journal as Hon. Treasurer. Goenka will continue to guide the new team as Immediate Past President. ​

  • IAA India wins Compass “Chapter Excellence” Award

    The IAA India Chapter has been selected to receive the coveted 2020 IAA Compass Chapter Excellence Award. Announcing this, Heather Leembruggen, Chairman – IAA Compass Awards: “This is awarded to the IAA Chapter judged to have made the best overall contribution to achieving the aims and objectives of the IAA over the previous two years (2018 and 2019).”

  • IAA India conducts leadership awards

    The India chapter of the International Advertising Association inducted veteran mediaperson Kaushik Roy into the IAA Hall of Fame. Roy was recognised at the sevent edition of the annual IAA Leadership Awards held in Mumbai on Friday.

     

    Other awards presented were Media Agency Leader of the Year to Prasanth Kumar, GroupM; IAA TV Anchor of the Year to Rahul Kanwal of the India Today Group, IAA Media Person of the Year to Sanjay Gupta, Star India and IAA Media Game Changer of the Year to Virendra Gupta  and Umang Bedi of  Dailyhunt.

     

    Also recognised in the evening were a variety of industry leaders. See List below

    A panel discussion was moderated by CVL Srinivas, Country Manager-WPP India, on “Platform is critical. Content be dammed” with panellists from across the media ecosystem: Punit Misra, CEO- Domestic Broadcast Business, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., Sameer Nair, CEO-Applause Entertainment, Nandini Dias, CEO-Lodestar UM, and  Pooja Jauhari, CEO –The Glitch. The panelists discussed how content, platform and the consumer are interlinked and how content and platform is a function of time and how data driven insights are helpful in generating timely content.

     

    Srinivasan Swamy, Chairman and World President IAA, who was also present on the occasion, said: “We can now trace the progress of Chapters geographically”. The second being to promote education across.

     

    In his acceptance speech, Kaushik Roy who is President Brand Strategy & Marketing Communication at Reliance Industries Limited, said: “It is a great honour that doesn’t come easy, especially from IAA that has been a global body for 80 years. One must keep the fire in the belly alive: To Grow – Stay Hungry”.
