  • IAA turns 85

    This month (October), the International Advertising Association (IAA), the leading network of marketing and marketing communications professionals and global umbrella body for the marketing and advertising industry, is celebrating 85 years of existence. This is being done with a series of events and initiatives aimed at bringing together its thousands of multidisciplinary members.

     

    Among the initiatives are:

    :: The official launch of IAA’s new 85 years celebrations logo starting October 3, 2023

    :: The IAA Global B2B Brand Summitwith a selection of the finest voices in B2B from around the world.

    :: A gala dinner in New York City, attended by 85 of IAA global leaders and IAA Compass partners from 56 countries around the world.

    :: The 45th IAA World Congress, which takes place every 2-3 years in major cities around the world, will be held in Penang, Malaysia highlighting sustainability, diversity, equity, inclusion and ESG.

     

    Said Sasan Saeidi, Chairman and World President of IAA Global: “Since IAA was founded 85 years ago by Thomas Ashwell and 12 Ad Execs at the New York Harvard Club, much has changed in the industry and in the approach of advertising goods and services. IAA is kicking off celebrations with initiatives which bring together our vast and multidisciplinary members, allowing IAA to tap on global best practice and play a strong role in supporting key industry issues and values.”

  • IAA presents second series of gaming by Young Professionals

    IAA Young Professionals (YP) wing of the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) presented the second session in the series of Gaming: The Next Big Thing.

    Donning his twin responsibilities, both as Vice President – Digital Innovation IAA Global and Vice President – IAA Young Professionals Development, Janak Sarda, Managing Director, Deshdoot Media Group, India, opened the session, mentioning how Covid has opened up a new vertical – Gaming as the 4th medium!

    Added Abhinay Bhasin, Co-Chair, IAA YP India: ‘The increased proliferation of smartphones coupled with better internet connectivity and increased time spent on content consumption during the lockdown period has made the Gaming Industry in India thrive. From a mere 25 in 2010, the number of online development companies in India has risen to over 250 in 2021 focusing on platforms linked to online games and sports entertainment such as Dream11. This led to the curation by the IAA YP India chapter to bring about awareness and highlight the opportunities within advertising and brand-audience engagement through gaming’

     

     

  • Ramesh Narayan elected IAA VP and Area Director APAC

    Ramesh Narayan, veteran adperson and Founder, Canco Advertising, has been unanimously elected Vice President and Area Director for the International Advertising Association (IAA) APAC region.

     

    Said Narayan: “I am grateful for the vote of confidence. The APAC region has unlimited potential and I look forward to working with all the Chapter Presidents to take the ideals of the IAA forward and firmly validate it’s positioning as the global compass of marketing and advertising.”

    Commenting on the election, Chairman and World President Srinivasan K Swamy added: “it is indeed a privilege that we have Ramesh Narayan as our Vice President and Area Director for Asia Pacific. He had already made his mark as VP of Marketing and Communications at IAA Global and therefore has set himself a high benchmark as to what to expect from him. His passion & commitment to IAA, coupled with his indomitable leadership spirit will help IAA Asia Pacific leapfrog as the most vibrant and inspirational region. I look forward to working closely with him in this regard.”

     

     

  • Punit Goenka is new IAA India President

    Punit Goenka, Managing Director & CEO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), is the new President of the the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA). The election happened at the IAA India chapter’s AGM on September 24 in Mumbai.

    Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands India, was elected Vice President. The officebearers ​for the year will be Pradeep Dwivedi, CEO, Sakal Media Group as Honorary Secretary, Jaideep Gandhi, Founder, Another Idea continues as Honorary Treasurer and Ramesh Narayan is of course the  Immediate Past President. ​

     

    The members of the Managing Committee elected include Megha Tata, COO, BTVI, Janak Sarda Director, Deshd hoot Group, M V Shreyams Kumar, Joint MD, Mathrubhumi Group, I Venkat, Director, Eenadu and  Abhishek Karnani, Director, Free Press Journal. The list of members co-opted and invited to the Managing Committee will be announced soon.

    Recently, Goenka has relinquished office as President of the IBF. During his tenure as MD & CEO, Zee has won several awards including the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Award 2015, IMC Fusion Award 2013 for Excellence in Media, Business world Infocom ICT Award 2012 and many more. Goenka was conferred the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Media’ award at the Managing India Awards hosted by AIMA in 2018. He has also received Business Today ‘Best CEO Award’ in the Media and Entertainment category for 2016, MIPTV’s Médailled’ Honneur Award 2016, Economic Times ‘40 Under Forty’ India’s Hottest Business Leaders Award 2014, the ‘Young CEO Award’ by CEO India magazine in 2015 and the IAA Leadership Award 2014 under the category of ‘Media Person of the Year Award’. Goenka has also been recognised as the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ during the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2014. Goenka was felicitated as the ‘Impact Person of the Year’ in 2014.

    Other than his leadership of the Zee group and various industry associations, its his gamechanging stint as Chairman of television measurement body BARC that has been hailed widely. In fact along with Shashi Sinha and Partho Dasgupta, Goenka received the MxMIndia Media person of the Year award in December 2015.

    Speaking on his new role as the President of IAA, Goenka said: “It is an honour for me to take over the mantle of leading the India Chapter of IAA. I am humbled by the faith and trust that my friends and colleagues from the Industry have bestowed on me. It will be my sincere endeavour to work towards strengthening the India Chapter of this prestigious association, taking up initiatives that address key industry concerns and are aimed at enhancing the ecosystem.”

    Added outgoing President Ramesh Narayan: “I am delighted that Punit Goenka is taking over as President IAA. His well-known leadership skills and the respect he commands in our industry will undoubtedly take the IAA India Chapter to greater heights. Shashi Sinha is a doyen of the advertising industry and a known performer in industry Associations. The combination is unbeatable.” Narayan completed a one-year tenure as President where he also reactivated the IAA India chapter after a one-year period of relative inactivity.

    Added Srinivasan Swamy, President-Elect IAA Global and Chairman, RK Swamy BBDO: “Punit Goenka is wonderful leader to have in the year when India will host the 44th. IAA World Congress in Kochi in February 2019. I am very happy that such a distinguished person has taken over the responsibility of leading IAA. It augurs well for the India chapter.”

     

     

  • Gopal Vittal to head high-powered IndIAA Awards jury

    The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) has released a list of initial confirmations of jury members for the third edition of their IndIAA awards which would be presented in Mumbai on September 8 in Mumbai.

     

    The jury members are: Gopal Vittal, CEO Bharti Airtel – Chairman; Members: Sunil Duggal, CEO, Dabur India; Suresh Narayanan, CMD, Nestle India;

    Shikha Sharma, MD & CEO, Axis Bank; Sunil Kataria, Business Head, India and SAARC, Godrej Consumer Products and President, ISA; Nitish Kapoor, SVP Regional Director South Asia & Managing Director,  Reckitt Benckiser India; Sanjeev Bikchandani, Founder & Executive Vice Chairman, Info Edge.

     

    Said Pradeep Guha, Chairman IndIAA Awards Committee: ”Any award is only as good as the jury who judges it, and I am very pleased to announce such a stellar list of names. These are people who have judged advertising every day and are best suited to decide on the merit of real work.”

  • IndIAA Awards set for September 16

    The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA), launched the IndIAA awards “for real creative advertising that was backed by real budgets” last year. Nominations for the second edition were invited and unprecedented number of nominations was received and reviewed.

     

    D Shivakumar, Chairman & CEO, PepsiCo India, chaired a jury of senior business leaders, which included Shantanu Khosla, VL Rajesh, GeetuVerma, Sanjay Behl and Amit Syngle.

     

    Said Shivakumar: “We just finished seeing over 100 shortlisted commercials from 19-20 categories. We spend about four-and-a-half hours reviewing some outstanding and some average work. We judged the commercials and the whole campaign under three parameters: 1) does it make us think on the brand and the category in a fresh way 2) Is the benefit visualised brilliantly as a lot of it is in the audio visual medium 3) How campaignable is this. I must say that the whole process has been outstanding and the results have been pretty simple and clear. I wish all the winners the very best and for those who haven’t won, best of luck for the next time”

    Added Pradeep Guha, Chairman, IndIAA Awards: “In our second edition, advertising campaigns that were released between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016 will be honoured in multiple product and service categories. To qualify for the Award, the campaign should have film (TV or Digital) as one of its elements. In each product or service category, no more than an overall winner was awarded. The awards ceremony is slated for September 16 at the ITC Maratha, near Sahar Airport in Mumbai.”

  • IAA Debates to debate on quality of print advertising

    The next IAA Debates, presented by the Dainik Bhaskar group will be on “The quality of creativity in print advertising today is adversely impacting the efficacy of Print Medium.”

     

    The debate is scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2016 at ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai, 6pm onwards.

  • IAA to celebrate Silver Jubilee in Kochi with 2-day Summit

    The International Advertising Association (India Chapter) will celebrate its Silver Jubilee with a two day Summit at the Le Meridian Convention Center Kochi on the 4th and the 5th September 2015. Under the overall theme of “What’s Coming Next” of IAA Global, this Summit will have a sub theme of ‘”Crossroads: Where Change is shaping the Future Today”.
