  • Network18 rejigs media & distribution business

    Reliance Industries announced a consolidation of its media and distribution businesses spread across multiple entities into Network18.

     

    Under the Scheme of Arrangement, TV18 Broadcast, Hathway Cable & Datacom

     

    and Den Networks will merge into Network18 Media & Investments. This is with effect from February 1, 2020. The broadcasting business will be housed in Network18 and the cable and ISP businesses in two separate wholly owned subsidiaries of Network18. Reliance Industries’ holding in Network18 will reduce from 75% to around 64% upon implementation of the Scheme. The Scheme of Arrangement is subject to all necessary approvals.

     

    Given this, according to a press release issued Network18

     

    • Will be an integrated media and distribution company with a revenue of ~Rs. 8,000 cr,

    • Will scale-up as one of the largest listed players in the sector

    • Will be net-debt free at consolidated level, providing a solid base for growth as well as improved shareholder returns

    • Will benefit from a balanced mix of cyclical and annuity revenues to unlock growth while ensuring stability.

    • Will create eco-system for growth opportunities in digital, broadcast media, cable and broadband.

     

    The consolidation of cable businesses of Den and Hathway in one entity will leverage the combined strength of the around 27,000 LCO partners who act as the touchpoints to about 15 mn households in India; delivering localized, people-friendly and ultra-fast customer services.

     

    The combined Broadband entity will serve ~1 mn wireline broadband subscribers across the country.

     

  • Hathway enhances OTT viewing experience with Android TV

    Hathway Cable has launched an OTT set-top box based on Google’s Android TV. Hathway Playbox, which carries a dedicated You Tube, Netflix and Google Play button on the remote control, will give the ability to consumers to access their favourite show with a single click.

     

    Said Rajan Gupta, Managing Director, Hathway: “One of the strengths of Hathway Play box is our cooperation with some of the most popular play-services. In addition to Google Play and YouTube, we are delighted that Netflix, the world’s largest streaming service will be available in Hathway Play box at launch and that our customers can easily access their content via the button on the remote control.”

  • Netflix partners Hathway Broadband in India

    Hathway and Netflix have partnered to provide consumers seamless access to Netflix through the Hathway set-top box. The set-top box will come with a remote with a dedicated Netflix button to allow users to launch Netflix with the click of a button. Hathway subscribers will be able to pay for their Netflix subscription using their Hathway bill.

     

    The Hathway set-top box will be launched at an introductory price of Rs. 2,999. All existing and new Hathway broadband consumers, who subscribe to Netflix and pay through their Hathway bill for their Netflix subscription, will receive this box for free.

  • Hathway partners YuppTV to offer digital entertainment

    Hathway has partnered with YuppTV to offer live TV and on-demand entertainment content to customers. Hathway will provide high-speed fibre broadband subscribers YuppTV subscription as part of the monthly plans.

  • Shemaroo Entertainment partners Hathway on cable deal

    Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd has joined hands with Hathway to change the dynamics of TV viewing in India. For the first time, audiencescan enjoy premium paid ad-free services on cable TV. A platter of popular services namely Miniplex, Comedy walas, Om Shakti, Ibaadat, Lamhe Movies and Yippee are now available on cable TV as well.

     

    As part of the launch, the said services are offered free to the consumers for the first month, ushering them withan experience of next generation TV viewing. Post this period, these services will be available at different price points.

  • Hathway ropes in Aidem to handle ad-sales function

    Hathway has announced the launch of high-impact advertising solutions’ suite on its digital platform. To reach out to the nation-wide marketing & advertising fraternity, Hathway has tied up with Aidem Ventures.

     

    Hathway’s cable operations straddle across 140 key Indian cities and towns. It is currently India’s largest cable broadband services provider. Its subscriber base constitutes approximately 52 per cent of the total cable broadband market in India.

  • Digital cable subscribers to get monthly bills

    Digital Cable TV subscribers will now get monthly bills from their cable operators. The new facility, which has been introduced as per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regulations, will usher in greater transparency in billing, notes a communiqué from the MSO Alliance

     

    Beginning December 2013, subscribers will get a bill for their cable TV every month starting with that of November 2013.  Commenting on the introduction of monthly billing, S N Sharma, Secretary, MSO Alliance and CEO, DEN Networks said: “This move is important as it will ensure that there are no additional or random charges levied on the subscribers. Our viewers will thus pay only for what they watch and they must insist on a bill from their local cable operator or multiple system operator at the time of monthly payment.”

     

    The MSO Alliance has also launched an advertisement campaign through print media and cable television channels to spread awareness about the monthly billing system.

     

    As per the TRAI regulations, subscribers will get a time period of 15 days from the date of the bill to make their payment. In case the subscriber fails to make the payment after the expiry of the due date of payment, the MSO or the affiliate LCO (local cable operator) has the right to charge interest on the outstanding amount.

     

    The MSO Alliance comprises the major digital TV platforms of the country including DEN Networks, Hathway, SITI Digital Cable Television and Incablenet. Digital cable currently has over 19 million subscribers in the 41 cities covered under Phases 1 and 2 of digitization.

     

  • Esha Media appoints Kashmira Khan as head of operations

    Leading media monitoring firm Esha Media Research Ltd has appointed Kashmira Khan as Head Operations. She will be responsible for coordinating with TV channels to provide them customize services including third party audit, content archives, monitoring and telecast reports among others.

     

    Ms Khan worked with TV Today and Hathway Cable and Datacom in the past. “We are pleased to get Ms Kashmira Khan on board as part of expanding the ambit of our operations and are confident that she will take Esha Media to greater heights going by the bandwidth of her experience in the TV media spectrum,” said RS Iyer, Managing Director of the BSE-listed Esha Media Research Ltd.”

     

    Based out of the Mumbai office, Ms Khan will directly report to Mr RS Iyer.

     

  • Hathway ties up with D-Link to offer routers

    Hathway Broadband Internet has tied up with D‐Link to offer wi‐fi routers bundled in the market under the “Wi‐Fi Broadband Homes” initiative.

     

    All existing and new customers of Hathway Broadband across the country can avail this offer and convert their wired homes into “Wi‐Fi Broadband Homes ” with speed of upto 15mbps.

     

    The company intends to leverage on its robust Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) network to deliver a superior connectivity to its users.

    Hathway will not charge any one time fee or monthly rentals for the Wi‐Fi device. D‐Link Wi‐Fi router will be given to the customers at zero cost. However customers would be charged a nominal fully refundable security deposit, a communiqué notes.

     

  • Ten Sports channels now available on Hathway

    Ten Sports channels comprising of Ten Sports, Ten Action, Ten Cricket, Ten Golf and Ten HD will now be available on Hathway Cable and Datacom. Both the companies have reached an agreement in this regard. Ten Sports Channels will be available for Hathway subscribers in DAS and non-DAS areas in all the major cities and towns.

     

    Atul Pande, CEO, Ten Sports said, “We are delighted to reach an agreement with Hathway Cable and Datacom for distribution of Ten Sports Channels. This will not only make compelling sports content covering cricket, football, golf, athletics, WWE, etc available for the viewers of Hathway but also help Hathway to improve its revenues through subscription.”

     

    He further added, “Viewers can look forward to exhilarating Tri Series between India West Indies and Sri Lanka starting June 28 on Ten Channels. This year Ten has the maximum live India matches across all sports networks, and Hathway subs will have access to all these matches.”

  • Hathway to carry NatGeo other Fox Int Channels in HD

    Leading MSO and cable broadband provider Hathway will not offer its customers high definition viewing of all Fox International Channels (FIC). Hathway’s consumers can now take a pick of their favorite channel in HD Quality from National Geographic Channel, Fox Traveller, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Adventure, Nat Geo Music and Baby TV.

     

    Speaking about the partnership, Jagdish Kumar, CEO, Hathway said, “Hathway is known for being a trendsetter and we are extremely pleased to partner FIC.”

     

    Commenting on the partnership,  Keertan Adyanthaya, Managing Director, NGC Network India and Fox International Channels says, “We are delighted our channels will be available in enhanced picture quality across Hathway’s extensive network.”

     

  • Hathway’s Jayaraman joins Zee

    K Jayaraman, erstwhile CEO and MD of Hathway Cable and Datacom and a veteran of the broadcast business, has joined the Zee group to head distribution and placement business. He will report to Punit Goenka, MD and CEO, ZEEL.

     

    Mr Jayaraman had spent close to 15 years at Hathway group of companies. At Hathway Cable and Datacom, he was instrumental in the company foraying into the broadband, digital cable and HD service segments. In December 2012, he was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the company. However, in January this year, Mr Jayaraman quit the organisation.

     

    With digitization phase II reaching the deadline, this move may also help MediaPro – a joint venture between Star Den and Zee Turner.

     

    Despite repeated attempts, Mr Jayaraman was not reachable.
