Q. Given that there is no end in sight to the ongoing pandemic, do you think it’s possible for the #2 and #3 newspapers to survive the downturn and adspend drought?
A. In fact I think it’s a great opportunity for the second and third paper. This pandemic-led business model crisis is a great leveller and it’s an opportunity for all players to recalibrate their business model, by understanding audiences’/ consumers’ new circumstances of life and their behavioural shift. In a format-/ screen-agnostic world of consumers, every media model has to revisit both the demand side and supply side of the business. And then market would be the arbiter of deciding on the revised pecking order of numbers on the basis of which players uses the current crisis as opportunity.
