  • Taproot India cleans up with 2 Golds at Campaign Asia-Pacific Awards 2012

    By A Correspondent

Taproot India has bagged two Golds – Creative Agency of the Year Award and Agency of the Year for India and the Subcontinent – at the Campaign Asia-Pacific Awards held at Singapore on Monday, 10th December.

The Campaign Asia-Pacific Agency Award is in its 19th year and continues recognizing inspired leadership, management excellence and outstanding achievements in advertising and communication industry.

For Taproot India, the year began with a bang with 34 metals at Goafest, making them the second best creative agency in the country. Their work also picked up a Gold Cannes Lion, in craft category for ‘I am Mumbai’ campaign. With multiple awards, they were the runner-up independent agency at Spikes Asia 2012. A week back they won three gold metals at Ad Club EFFIE Awards and now, this achievement brings a well deserved end to the year. Speaking on this win, an overwhelmed Santosh Padhi, Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder, Taproot India said, “It feels great to get recognition for your work. Every win inspires us to do bigger and better the next time. We have topped the table on many occasions, be it local or international awards or be it creative or effective awards.”

Agnello Dias, Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder, Taproot India, said, “In a small agency there is more transparency and the flow of communication is effective. As long as your client is content and the idea clicks with your audience, the size of the agency is secondary. The trend has changed and now it is your work that matters.”

“This is a fantastic win for Aggi and Paddy and the entire Taproot team. A true testimony to the fact that Taproot is today the creative powerhouse of the region. They absolutely deserve this recognition and I’d like to believe that, in some small way, we brought them this luck”, said Rohit Ohri, Executive Chairman, Dentsu India Group. Taproot India is a part of the Dentsu Network after Dentsu Inc. acquired 51 percent equity in the near-four-year-old agency.

  • The Anchor: Viren Popli on 5 things mobile advertising in India should adopt

    By Viren Popli

    It is not internet advertising:

Don’t treat it like internet advertising – banners, spam, CTR, CPI. It didn’t work, doesn’t work and will not work.

    More co-operation needed:

Handset manufacturer, content owner and telecom companies need to work together and maybe share 30-30-30 and give the tech/reseller 10.

    Don’t interrupt conversation:

Use waiting times when we are staring at a blank screen, or listening to a dumb audio sound for advertising. Keep it out of my real conversation.

    Consumer is the king:

Allow consumers to select brands he wants to hear from, and ads he wants people to see when they reach out to him. After all, many of us use brands to define our personality – give him a piece of the action.

    More engineers in creative agencies:

Have creative agencies hire more engineers and put them on par with the “creative types” – create internal stress. You can’t separate the technology from the message. So no matter how interesting the idea… If the technology doesn’t deliver, neither will the message.

  • 7 reasons all creative agencies must be at GoaFest

    By Dhunji Wadia

#1 GoaFest is the most prestigious advertising festival in India, jointly hosted by the AAA of I and The Advertising Club Bombay.

#2 It’s a wonderful opportunity to attend stimulating seminars and rub shoulders with the best minds in the business from India and overseas.

#3 One gets to see the entire body of innovative work created in the last year.

#4 The size of the organization does not matter – small organizations have as much a chance to win an Abby as big ones do.

#5 Everyone wins – the people who create the groundbreaking work as well as the viewers who get to see all in one stretch. It’s a celebration of the work created by the industry.

#6 The awards also spread good work globally.

#7 They happen in Goa.  I rest my case!

  • [LOOKBACK 2011] What creative & media agencies won

    By Ritu Midha

A slew of international and national advertising and media awards dot the year. Agencies bag a prize, are written about, and in a few days, it is business as usual. The next set of awards comes up, another agency tops the chart, and the same cycle begins all over again.

There are, however, agencies which garner awards consistently, across the award shows. Sometimes a few make a mark on the national awards scene, but don’t win so many accolades in international shows or it can happen the other way round.

The year 2011 had a few interesting ups and downs: BBDO which managed to bag 14 awards globally, got just three within India. Contract which got 16 within the country,  got just two globally. Mindshare won 27 awards nationally and one globally, Maxus had a score of 21 and one respectively.

However, in the case of creative agencies, most national award winners have done well internationally too. (Perhaps the lesser number of global media awards has something to do with it!)

Below is a quick look at how the key winners in national awards did globally, and in a few cases, how the ones which did very well globally, did in the national scene.
