  • Badminton Assoc awards PBL mandate to Sportzlive

    The business interests in badminton have been rising, and with the Silver win by PV Sindhu at the Rio Olympics, the game is sure to be seen with renewed interest by marketers. The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has now awarded the long-term rights of Premier Badminton League (PBL) to Sportzlive and Entertainment ahead of its PBL 2017 season. The first season of the relaunched Premier Badminton League, the official league of the BAI, was conducted in January 2016 and Sportzlive was the league’s marketing and commercial partner.

     

    Speaking on the occasion, Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta, President, Badminton Association said: “BAI, as the governing body for Badminton in India, is committed to the growth of the sport in India, and is extremely pleased to partner with Sportzlive in its endeavours to grow our sport in India. The recent performance of our players in the Olympics, and the Super Series events has strengthened our resolve to continue building the sporting ecosytem for badminton through such events and partnerships. Sportzlive and its directors Atul Pande and Prasad Mangipudi, bring to the table, immense experience and expertise to assist us in achieving this vision.”

     

    “We are extremely honoured to be granted the long term rights of a very prestigious league like Premier Badminton League! We have been part of the first edition of the league as a Commercial Partners.   • Zee appoints Rajesh Sethi as CEO for TEN

    Taj Television Pvt Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, has announced the appointment of Rajesh Sethi as CEO to manage the sports business. He will report to Zee MD and CEO Punit Goenka. Atul Pande, who was CEO of the sports business until Mr Sethi joined on July 2, will be offered an alternate responsibility within the Essel Group.

     

    Speaking on the appointment, Mr Goenka said, “His rich experience across various sectors would bring in immense value to the organization, enhancing the performance of our sports business by many folds”.

     

    Commenting on his new role, Mr Sethi said, “Media & Entertainment is an extremely dynamic sector, and I am glad to join a brand which is a leader in this category..”

     

    Wis experience of over 20 years across multiple sectors like insurance, consumer services and automobiles, Mr Sethi was until recently employed with Allianz Global Assistance as CEO and Region Director – South East Asia.

     

    An alumnus of the Harvard Business School, Rajesh also holds a degree in mechanical engineering and a diploma in international business and sales and marketing.

     

  • Ten Sports extends ‘Tour De France’ for another 4 years

    Sports content provider Ten Sports has announced that it has acquired broadcast rights for Tour De France till 2016 for the Indian subcontinent. Ten Sports will be the exclusive rights holder in the Indian subcontinent with the exception of rights being shared with the pan-regional broadcaster Eurosport in Sri Lanka.

     

    Commenting on the acquisition, Atul Pande, CEO, Ten Sports said, “We are proud to be associated with an event as esteemed as Tour De France, especially at a time when it is having its 100th edition in 2013. This long-term relationship with Tour De France will bring in much delight to our viewers who crave high-adrenaline bicycle racing.”

     

    The 2013 Tour de France, the 100th edition of the race, is scheduled to start on June 29 in Corsica, in the city of Porto-Vecchio. The island will host the first three stages. Corsica is the only Metropolitan department which the Tour has never passed through and the organizers wanted to combine the 100th edition of the Tour with the Tour’s first ever visit to Corsica.

    Taj Television India Pvt Ltd has announced the launch of Ten Golf, a dedicated 24-hour golf channel. Ten Golf is the fifth channel from Taj Television India Pvt Ltd and began transmission on March 15, 2012. The dedicated golf channel will showcase a mix of live, non-live and feature programming. The channel will also broadcast live, high quality Golf action from around the world.

     

    Speaking on the occasion, Atul Pande, CEO-Sports Business, Zee said, “India as a sporting nation is fast transforming from a single sport to a multi-sport nation. As India’s leading sports broadcaster we understand that the sports consumption pattern of the Indian viewer raises the need for specialized differentiated sport channels and this is what we hope to deliver to our revered golf viewers. Along with live golf action, Ten Golf will also showcase feature programming on golf including magazine shows and archival programming; making Ten Golf the most comprehensive golf channel in the broadcast space.”

     

    Ten Golf has acquired rights for European Tour and Asian Tour till 2016, and has also entered into partnership with PGTI for three years to telecast the Indian Tour. Further, Ten Golf will be telecasting 400 hrs of golf programming in association with NBC.

     

  • PGTI, Ten Golf ink three-year deal

    Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), the official sanctioning body of professional golf in India, on Thursday announced a three-year exclusive partnership with the soon-to-be-launched sports channel, Ten Golf.

     

    The deal provides Ten Golf with the broadcasting rights for all PGTI-sanctioned tournaments within and outside the country from 2012 to 2014. Ten Golf  is India’s first exclusive golf channel.

     

    Announcing the partnership, Mr. Padamjit Sandhu, Director, PGTI, said: “Professional golf inIndiahas had strong positive growth over the last five years under PGTI. We are at a stage now where it is important for us to showcase the depth of Indian talent and their achievements with the support of a professional electronic medium. To further grow golf, and project the opportunities and the potential the sport has, it is important to have a strong broadcast partner. With Ten Golf we see strong synergies, and are confident that their expertise, knowledge and bandwidth will substantially help take Indian golf to the next level.”

  • Ten Sports gets hockey deal till 2014

    Ten Sports has entered into a long-term partnership with the International Hockey Federation to acquire the broadcasting rights for the major FIH Championships till 2014. As part of the agreement Ten Sports will be broadcasting over 50 India-playing matches the next four years from major men’s hockey tournaments from around the world.

     

    Atul Pande, CEO Ten Sports, said, “Our long-term agreement with FIH reaffirms our commitment to bring  the best sports action to our viewers, and this new agreement for telecast of the best of men’s hockey, Champions Challenge and Champions Trophy, reaffirms our commitment to grow the sports business and consolidate our position as the leading sports broadcaster.”
