Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd has assigned additional charge of the music business to Umesh Bansal. This is in addition to his current role as the Chief Business Officer of the movies business. Bansal will continue to report into the MD & CEO, Punit Goenka. The decision, notes a communique, is in line with the resource optimization approach of the Company and aims to enhance the synergistic capabilities of the movies and music business to drive the growth of the company.

Zee Music has completed six years in India. Right from its inception in 2014, the music label has carved its niche to succeed as one of the top music publishers in India, publishing over a 1000 songs every year. In 2019, Zee Music released 250 film albums including 60 in Hindi and 190 in regional languages and a whopping 600+ non-film singles i.e. a 55 per cent market share of new Bollywood music released during the year.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has announced its foray into the music label space with its latest venture, ‘Zee Music Company’ (ZMC). The ZMC has plans to acquire the music rights of over 20 major motion pictures in the financial year 2014-15.

Technology has also emerged as a key transformer of the music industry and digital revenues are driving growth in the market. Since we are a content company, it is essential to own intellectual property as content is the king.”

Talking about the acquisitions, Mr Bedia said: “We are thrilled at having acquired the rights to the music of the Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Holiday’ which is jointly produced by Reliance Big Entertainment, Sunshine Pictures and Hari Om Entertainment Company.”
“We have also partnered with Fox Star Studios and signed the latter for the music of 5 of its Hindi releases for the year, including the Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh starrer ‘Humshakals’, Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Bang Bang’ and one of the most anticipated releases of the year ‘Bombay Velvet’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma”; Mr Bedi added.
